Much as I like Wayne Barnes I think there was opportunity for someone else to have done a game. Pressure on Andy Brace given events of the Autumn, I think he is strong enough to cope.

What does Karl Dickson need to do to get a game? Great chance to blood him in 6N wasted. Scotland v Italy would have been ideal I feel

I suspect that Karl has, or perceived to have, done something materially wrong in his France v Wales match last Autumn. I'd hate to think that there's something less material, such as a personality clash! At least he is on the naughty step, rather than being dispensed with completely (NH examples being Rob Dickson, Joel Dume & JP Doyle - SH Glen Jackson).

Starter for 10! Is it more important that officials at the top of the pyramid are "in line" with the administrators'/coaches'/players' requirements or applying the laws? I like to hear the conversations between the referee, his/her ARs and the TMO - something which football (English PL particularly) should be copying shamelessly. Last weekend's English Premiership fixtures did have 5 red cards but I wonder whether Ian Tempest & Karl Dickson would, with hindsight, have added to that total - based on highlights, the "odd one out" was Christophe Ridley but his game's highlight was what constitutes a kicker starting his kick. I'll bet that this weekend's 6N fixtures will have some similar issues!

I did comment elsewhere about Dickson/Tempest
Christophe Ridley did ok at Exeter, pitch was a bog, hurricane blowing off the Exe and Northampton defending with their lives. Exeter's Dave Ewers should have seen at least yellow for shoulder to body when he was support tackler

Would have liked to see Dickson get a game. Why 2 for both Carley and Pearce? I still don’t really rate Carley I have to say
Good to see Brace get a couple of games and we’ll done Mike Adamson.
Gauzere for the Wales game and Peyper for France - could it get any worse?

Agree wholeheartedly about Dickson. Carley was good in Champions Cup last 2 weekends.

In current international terms Gauzerre and Peyper is about as low as it gets. An irratic Poite is not much fun but he seems to have settled back into steady Romain.

Obviously it would have been good to get the Tasman boys up but too soon for that.

Well RCG I think we hit the nail on the head. Always felt Gauzere was a disaster waiting to happen and today he proved it. Not sour grapes as Wales deserved to win but how much longer can the World Rugby persevere with this clown

Luke Pearce's second match looks like it will be the championship decider - his biggest international match to date.

The most appalling bit of rugby union refereeing I’ve seen for a long time

Think what the outcry would have been if this was a world cup game! Then again  better referees would have been appointed as the pandemic has caused a few problems regarding availability.

I see Gauzere has spoken to fellow Frenchman Joel Jutge, head of international referees, and admitted he made mistakes on both counts.
What is really worrying is that Jutge says “he is still an excellent international referee” so looks like the game is stuck with him for a few more years. 😱

Really good to see lots of praise being heaped on Andrew Brace for his non fussy handling of the superb England v France game, one critic even saying he was almost invisible. I think he has a great career ahead of him
Take note Mr Carley

The way the 2 teams set out to play really helped him (and the game). Refereed the breakdown well, warned England after 3 advantage penalties and England listened!
Even (correctly) changed his mind on a penalty when Earl did put his elbows on the ground before securing the ball.
Did Itoje ground the ball, probably. Was there enough convincing footage to overturn a "no try" call, probably not. Fine margins.
I rate Andrew Brace very highly. Now needs CoVid restrictions to finally be lifted so he can go out and ref Aus/NZ/SA.
A very good game of rugby, some scintillating inter play on both sides

Romain was at his inconsistent/eclectic best today, not sure anyone knew who would get penalised at breakdown. Some patches of "hair scare" rugby, ended up with Ireland playing the edges that little bit better.
He is an institution but I feel he is passed his best.
Raynal and possibly Ruiz need to be given more chances
