Rugby Union Autumn Internationals

http://officiating.worldrugby.org/index.php?page=appointments&id=84

A huge number of appointments, shared oit pretty well. Lots of new/younger faces too.

Reperchage for last place at WC19 takes place in Marseille. Barnes, Gauzerre, Peyper, Pearce, Gardner and Poite all used.

England get:
Vs S Africa - Gardner (Aus) 😎
Vs N Zealand - Garces (Fra) 🙂
Vs Japan - Williams (NZ) 😁
Vs Australia - Peyper (SA) 😭
3 out of 4 aint bad

Some great appointments for the RFU lads, especially Pearce and Carley

Wayne Barnes is retiring at the end of the season so obviously looking at the next generation of English refs

Such a shame he is going but fair play to him as he has had a promotion within the legal profession.
Carley and Pearce to fight out for number 1 as JP Doyle has definitely been taken out the equation

Didn’t realise that Barnes was retiring. Is he going before the Workd Cup? Shame as he has been our top Ref for years.
Agreed about Doyle and also good to see Clancy on touch duties and no more. I also share RCG’s views on Peyper but clearly those that matter see something we don’t.
Interesting to see John Lacey with no appointment, middle or line, other than the Barbarians game at the end of the series of matches. Is he falling out of favour and could Andrew Brace, who I rate highly, be Ireland’s next top Ref? And women touch judges too!
One of the most interesting things for me is the appointment to 2 Tests of Karl Dickson the former Harlequins scrum half. Although he retired less than 2 years ago he has been reffing in lower leagues for a few years and been in the RFU’s accelerated training scheme since retirement. To get his first Tests so soon must indicate a good ability and promise for the future.

Barnes is going after RWC, but wont do any domestic games past end of this season.
Brace is quality and will be Irelands No1 sooner rather than later.
Dickson is very good, been impressed with his Premiership games plus at the U20 WC last year.
Good to see both Joy and Sara involved

Barnes' going will be keenly felt ( for all sorts of reasons ) A friend who has been involved in Rugby Union officiating says that if the higher levels of Association Football officiating are pretty intense and competitive they have nothing on  Rugby Union with it's many vested interests.

It would seem that Barnes' spot as England's number 1 referee will be taken either by Carley or Pearce with Maxwell-Keys and Ridley breathing hard on their necks.

Anyone know what has happened with JP Doyle? He was the golden boy a few years ago

He had 2 or 3 internationals on the bounce where things did not go his way. He looked flustered, which is very unlike JP. Since then his involvement has been minimal.
I like Carley's style, I think Pearce has more of a feel for a game. Maxwell-Keys is becoming a safe pair of hands. Ridley needs more experience but having seen him live he carries himself really well during games

RCG  you display good knowledge of senior English Rugby Union refereeing, where would you place Tom Foley and Ian Tempest in the present pantheon of greatness?

Tom Foley seems to be well thought of, he has an international match in this window. To me he is steady without being spectacular.
Tempest, if you pardon the pun, blows hot and cold. I think he goes looking for things and will always take the sternest line possible.
Dickson has a natural flair and feel. He will do very well. Given his age needs to be pushed along but is coping well.
Rugby refereeing im this country seems to be in good hands
