I would not be surprised if this ends up not being an India forfeit.  Money talks and the BCCI has loads of it.

There was talk of the Test being carried forward into next summer when the Indians are here for a T20/ODI series, including Old Trafford.
Whether a 5 day Test can be fitted in I'm not sure.

Just to cancel today's Test would seem unfair on England, and there have been suggestions (partly denied) that India were more concerned about being covid free for the start of the IPL given the short interval between.

They may have denied it but I think there will be strong suspicion that this is the main reason.

If this isnít an Indian forfeit then itís completely and utterly disgraceful.

If the reason for the forfeiture is the IPL and them wanting to avoid players self isolating during the IPL at the sacrifice of test cricket then India should be banned and/or thrown out of the test nations league system.

Unfortunately, the ICC wonít have the courage or audacity to take on the BCCI.

If it is a forfeit, then I think England should forfeit the 3 match ODI series v South Africa that they walked away from in December. It has to be consistent.

I personally 100% believe this is due to the IPL but thatís never going to be admitted in the public domain. Feel sorry for the thousands of fans who had bought tickets for what would have been an enthralling encounter!

Can see similar happening with the World 12s rugby.
We get told elite players need rest, we play too much but if the money is good they would play all year.

India v New Zealand Test series:

First Test:
ON-FIELD: Nitin Menon (India) and Virender Sharma (India)
THIRD: Anil Chaudhary (India)

Second Test:
ON-FIELD: Nitin Menon (India) and Anil Chaudhary (India)
THIRD: Virender Sharma (India)

MATCH REFEREE: Javagal Srinath (India)

Bangladesh v Pakistan Test series:

First & Second Tests:
ON-FIELD: Michael Gough (England) and Sharfuddoula (Bangladesh)
THIRD: Gazi Sohel (Bangladesh)

MATCH REFEREE: Neeyamur Rahul (Bangladesh)

Sri Lanka v West Indies Test series:

First Test:
ON-FIELD: Kumar Dharmasena (Sri Lanka) and Ruchira Pallyaguruge (Sri Lanka)
THIRD: Raveendra Wimalasiri (Sri Lanka)

Second Test:
ON-FIELD: Kumar Dharmasena (Sri Lanka) and Ruchira Pallyaguruge (Sri Lanka)
THIRD: Lyndon Hannibal (Sri Lanka)

MATCH REFEREE: Ranjan Madugalle (Sri Lanka)

These appointments seem to suggest that Australian umpires will officiate in The Ashes. I expect Reiffel, Tucker and Paul Wilson to umpire this series, but three umpires is very few for a five Test series. Perhaps Sam Nogajski will make his Test debut, or they may bring in someone like Gaffaney from NZ.

Excuse the formatting. I tried to bold some text but can't seem to find a way to do so!

Chaudhary seems to on-field and 3rd umpire in 2nd test so I assume this is an ICC typing error.
Good to see Michael Gough back after his recent misdemeanours

Whoops! That was a copy and paste error from me. I've amended it to the more realistic (and correct) appointment (unless Chaudhary is so good that he can perform two roles in the same Test match!)

Must say Iím slightly disappointed - was hoping to see neutral umpires resume after the world t20 but not to be. Will be interesting to see the appointments for the ashes. 4 umpires were used for the 5 test England-India series so I would assume something similar will happen in the ashes. Perhaps Gaffaney and Brown could support from New Zealand, otherwise Nogajski would seem the only other option!

Itís fine. Once Australia retain the ashes in Melbourne the ICC can bed in some new umpires!

Nitin Menon and Virender Sharma are having a shocker in Kanpur. Six decisions overturned, and there have been at least two that would have been overturned if reviewed. And it's only the first session on day 3.
