According to the Wikipedia page for the series:

England v Pakistan Test Series

Referee - Chris Broad

1: Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough; TV: Michael Gough
2: Michael Gough and Richard Kettleborough; TV: Richard Illingworth
3: Michael Gough and Richard Illingworth; TV: Richard Kettleborough

Given the current circumstances I suppose it was just a question of which test they would operate as the TV umpire.

I think they actually did think about these appointments as they will each have stood in 2 tests at the Ageas Bowl and 2 tests at Old Trafford. It would’ve been far more interesting to appoint if we had more or less Elite Panel members!!

I've just read on the Sky Cricket internet page that the experiment of the TV Umpire monitoring and calling front foot no-balls is being trialled in the current England v. Pakistan Test Series. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. It seemed to work OK in the recent England v. Ireland ODIs.

Neil Hartley was a capable all-rounder who played for Yorkshire late 70s into 80s.

Peter Hartley played for Yorkshire in mid 80s, they might have played together at some time.

I saw them playing together in an Under-25 game for Yorkshire. However Peter made his county debut for Warwickshire and then a few years later was re-signed by Yorkshire before moving to Hampshire. The two Hartleys may well have played together during Peter's second spell there.

It has happened then, Stuart Broad has been fined by the match referee for an offence that he has not contested.

Interesting  that on one occasion, Illingworth forgot himself and called a no ball, giving half a signal  before he remembered.  Old habits die hard!   Generally it seemed to work OK but I was always told that the umpire needed to call them loud and clear to give the batsman a chance to slog the ball, knowing he wouldn't  be out but not possible with the TV umpire making the call.  I assume the 'free hit' on the next ball only applies in the limited overs games.

Fined by his own father!  Good to see that did not stop him from taking appropriate action.

England v Australia ODI Series @ Old Trafford

Match Referee - Chris Broad

1: Richard Kettleborough & Michael Gough

2: Michael Gough & Richard Illingworth

3: Richard Illingworth & Richard Kettleborough

TV and 4th Umpires have not been confirmed on ICC website - I would assume that the non-standing elite official will take the role of TV umpire, but not sure about 4th

I'm sure you are right Mackem. Might even be the same 4th umpire for all 3 matches to keep 'the bubble' secure.

I'm a little surprised they're using Elite Test Panel Umpires for ODIs. I would have thought they'd use the Umpires from the International Panel as they did with the International T20s. Logic suggests that all our English International Panel Umpires will ever officate is home International T20s, as they don't use neutral Umpires in those games, so officiating abroad won't be an option. How can they possibly progress to the Elite Panel if all they stand in is International T20s?

I believe the Mackem ref has slightly got the appointments wrong for the ODI series. As per the ICC website only one on-field umpire and the 3rd umpire for each game has been confirmed. So it’s still possible for the likes of Saggers and Wharf to be appointed on-field for this series.
