The Fourth Test between Australia and India was Bruce Oxenford's final international match, as he is retiring from the Elite Panel in April. Certainly a fitting way to end a good umpiring career, being given the opportunity to umpire a series in his home country.

Simon Taufel mentioned it in TV coverage here in Australia, where he acts as an umpire analyst.

Congratulations to Bruce on a distinguished career! I always found him a solid and dependable umpire.

I think I’m right in saying that Bruce Oxenford is currently the oldest umpire on the elite panel at 60 years old, so this announcement is not that surprising. I remember reading in Ian Gould’s autobiography how around 60 years old is the unofficial retirement age for elite umpires.

As for his replacement; I would suggest his on field partner in the Gabba test, Paul Wilson must be favourite to succeed him! From what I saw Wilson did well in the test matches he stood in.
