I have noticed officials are holding caps, glasses etc during the womens World Cup, first time I’ve noticed post covid. I wonder if this is the first sign of a return to normality? Perhaps neutral officials won’t be far off!

One would hope neutral umpires return soon! I think it’s only New Zealand that have strict travel restrictions out of cricket playing nations, so there shouldn’t be problem umpires coming and going from other countries.

It sounds bizarre but the umpire appointments are too boring - more predictable than Mike Riley 🤣

They’re so boring the ICC rarely publish them on their website anymore!

7 overturned LBW decisions so far in the first test in Antigua.

Bangladesh clearly unhappy with umpiring in South Africa over recent weeks. I wonder if their calls will see neutral umpiring return soon?

I hope neutral umpires return, maybe for the English summer. I also wonder when we’ll see who is Bruce Oxenford’s replacement on the elite panel?

I hasten to suggest that Oxenford’s retirement might not be the only change to the elite panel!

As for non-neutral umpires, I can see absolutely no justification for it when many officials are happy to travel for lucrative IPL/PSL etc deals!

What other changes do you expect on the elite panel? For me Joel Wilson has never been good enough to be an international umpire. Wouldn’t be too surprised if he was removed! Other than that I don’t envisage any other changes.

Wilson was who I was referring to also! Perhaps to be replaced by an Australian Wilson? Palliyaguruge could also be given the step up?

I would think one australian will replace the other ie Paul Wilson for Bruce Oxenford.

Nice enough chap as he is Joel Wilson isnt elite panel standard imo.
Maybe the pandemic is keeping his position for him.
Alex Wharf a possible replacement?

I think Ahsan Raza and Adrian Holdstock could be in with a shout of getting on the elite panel. They were both appointed to the T20 World Cup last year which can only be a good sign!

Confirmation from the icc board meetings that neutral officials will be returning to international cricket. Tests will have a neutral match referee and two neutral umpires, one on field and one as tv umpire. A home umpire will also be appointed by the icc to stand on field.

ODIs and T20Is will continue to have a full match official team provided from the home board.

Incidentally, Joel Wilson has also been appointed to the ICC cricket committee, suggesting he is unlikely to lose his elite panel place any time soon!

I'm amused by their comment "The Committee acknowledged that the performance of home umpires was strong and had not affected games." I would suggest the opposite, especially recently in WI and South Africa with the number of overturned decisions and complaints about sledging.
