Congratulations to Ian Gould who will stand in his final international match as an umpire today. Arguably the most well-respected official by players in modern times!

Agreed, but does that mean that there is no chance of seeing Ian in a Semi or even the Final? Accepting the need for neutrality, I would still hope that umpires from the nations competing in the semi-finals will not be precluded from umpiring at this stage of the competition. Let's hope the rain we've been having in the NW this morning doesn't spoil Ian's big day at Leeds.

It’s been reported in the media as his final game (including bbc live text). Maybe Ian asked not to be considered for a knockout game, meaning he knew well in advance where his career would finish to get family/friends there to support him??

No real surprises for the England v Australia semi final. I have to say I'm shocked that Richard Illingworth has been appointed to the other semi final, don't thinks he's ever really been near a world tournament semi-final before if I remember correctly and I've never considered him in the top bracket of ICC umpires. I personally thought that Rod Tucker was nailed on for an old-field spot in that semi-final.

Sundaram Ravi

Paul Reiffel

Umpire's Call: 2

Paul Wilson

These stats only reflect decisions that were reviewed - from what I saw, there were a number of calls that should have been reviewed but weren't - either because the team chose not to review, or couldn't (because they'd used their review already).

Wonder how much these are on merit or just “political”?
To me both Dharmasena and Kettleborough have been less than impressive at this World Cup and Gaffeney not much better.

I suppose an England-Australia semi rules out most of the officials - they need to pick four from seven!

That none sense over Roy’s “dismissal” is another indication of what a poor WC Dharmasena has had.
I predict now that Erasmus and Tucker will get the final, with Reiffel as 3rd umpire

Based on how the ICC have appointed in the past, I would bet on Erasmus and Dharmasena to stand in the final, despite the latter’s indifferent performance!

I think that's a pretty good shout for the Final.  Actually, until today I thought that I had seen an improvement in Dharmasena in this world cup but the Roy decision was awful, particularly for someone who has now stood in over 100 one day internationals.  The pity is that he, as the villain of the piece will get away with it and Roy will get penalised for his dissent, despite the tremendous provocation. Yes, I know that players should accept the decisions of officials but sometimes when they are so bad, particularly in matches of this importance, that even Mother Teresa would have probably been minded to whisper an expletive.
