Gallagher Premiership Final

Craig Maxwell-Keys has been appointed

Shocked but pleased, has developed well (although there are others IMO ahead of him)

I agree it is a shock although he does seem to have grown into the job of late.  I recall a friend of mine who knows much more than I about these things and whose opinion I always respect, saying, I think in his first season in the Premiership, that he thought Maxwell-Keys was the poorest referee he had ever seen at this level.

All the best to Wayne Barnes for a speedy and safe recovery.

Unfortunate for Wayne, but great chance for Craig - albeit because all our other senior referees are on international duty.

I wonder if this will affect the chances of Wayne doing France v Ireland next weekend.

Didnt realise/remember so many English were on Internationals
Carley, Pearce, Ridley and Foley in Ireland
Dickson and Tempest in France
So with Barnes out CMK is the most senior left (last man out sanitise and close the door!)

Any thoughts as to touch judges?
Fox and Smales maybe? Or bring back JP? 😂

Gone with Harding and Dix, Kitt is TMO
Think Tony Spreadbury must be reserve referee and Chris White as Number 5!!!!

Barnes was TMO @ Exeter last Saturday, so any positive result would have been after that. Any 14 day period will include next Saturday so I cannot see how he will be in Paris. Looks like a job for Nigel.

Horrible weather at HQ meant it was never going to reach the heights of last year as a game, nor even when Exe last played Wasps in the final. However, it was on a knife edge deep into the last 5 mins. A botched line out followed by back to back penalties ensured the Chiefs could see the game out
CMK did well, I thought he was consistent to both sides and across the 80 minutes. May not have agreed with everything but didnt make any key, game changing errors. 2 sides who like to play rugby and rarely make it more difficult for the ref.

On an aside Simon Harding the senior AR has "only" ever reffed Prem Cup matches, Paul Dix is full time AR, 4th was Mike Hudson who has reffed up to Championship and 5th was Jamie Leahy, relatively new to list. Relatively old head as TMO, who I dont remember him having anything to do!
Equivalent to having Stuart Attwell, James Linnington and Darren Cann, with Matt Donohue and James Mainwaring on the Premier League decider
