European Rugby Finals
« on: Tue 09 May 2023 15:55 »
EPCR Challenge Cup Final
Friday 19th May (20:00)
Referee: Wayne Barnes
ARs: Chris Busby & Craig Evans
TMO: Ben Whitehouse

Heineken Champions Cup
Saturday 20th May (16:45)
Referee: Jaco Peyper
ARs: Karl Dickson & Christophe Ridley
TMO: Tom Foley

Not entirely sure I agree with these selections especially Peyper as referee for the final of the Champions Cup. Was expecting to see someone like Karl Dickson or Matt Carley as the referee for that. Happy with Barnes on the Challenge Cup as a good send-off for him in what will most likely be his last game in European competition. As a welshman, glad to see Craig Evans & Ben Whitehouse be involved although not entirely sure they should be used given the appointments they've both had in the knockout stages. Finally, good luck to all the officals involved and hope that they both have good games in their respective games.

Well I have to say I would have been way off with any predictions. Peyper must have been assessed as "better" in the SFs, surprised Luke Pearce not included, nor big Nika
Craig Evans and Ben Whitehouse seem to be in their likely roles for WC, along with Ridley and possibly Foley.
Good luck to all

Have to say I'm really disappointed with the HC Final appointment, for Peyper to be involved in a SF and then Final is an absolute joke of a decision, how the other officials who had been performing throughout the tournament feel about this must be demoralising!!

Whilst I understand Barnes getting a send off and I don't really have an issue with that, he deserves one last hurrah.

Have to feel for Nika & Matthew as IMO they deserved more than they received.

Peyper was fine. Foley on TMO was excellent

Firstly, what a game! Why is a lead after 10 mins so hard to hang on to?
I felt Peyper's complete indifference to managing the breakdown added to the 'madness' of the game.
First yellow was swiftly, probably too hastily, given. Second yellow was 2 collapsed mauls too late although pleasing to see him award it, despite the try being scored.
Third yellow could easily have been red
The red I totally agreed with.
Some excellent rugby, crunching tackles, players on the edge of legal for a lot of the game. A compelling afternoon's rugby

Incredible game and I thought JP was surprisingly poor with managing the breakdown and agree with RCG on the cards, we could definitely seen a red instead of the 3rd yellow. Incredible really that Leinster ultimately blew it!
What an atmosphere - Must be one of the top games the SA has officiated in the NH!!
It was a complete contrast to a rather dull and one-sided Challenge Cup Final (Glasgow were poor really). Thought WB did ok with no major issues which I'm sure he would be pleased with.
