England v India

Is it just my perception or is Richard Kettleborough having a mare in the 1st Test? I have seen a number of decisions overturned after review and to me it seems most of them were errors on his part. Can anyone confirm either way?

I'm not sure that counts as a "mare", considering all the decisions that are not reviewed (and can be deemed to be correct).

It does mean that he is not quite as good as Michael Gough, but then mot many are.

Agreed. I think Michael Gough is a quality umpire, reminds me veer much of the excellent Simon Taufel

Dare I say the numbers presented would suggest Kettleborough is the better umpire in this test.
Kettleborough 3/9 incorrect = 33.33334% incorrect
Gough 2/5= 40%

Gough 2/5= 40%

You could but that does discount all the decisions where the "aggrieved party" has chose not to review.  All of these decisions (both out and not out) need to be added to the percentage of correct ones.

Yes, the stats I posted are only based on decisions that were reviewed.  There are, of course, far more decisions made during the course of a match.  However, purely based on the stats posted, I wouldn't say Kettleborough had a 'mare' - he still had a reasonable success rate.
