final could go to Taylor or Oliver as it doesn't involve English teams?

Delighted for Taylor. With him not having many years left on the elite list, Its probably his best oppurtunity for a major uefa final, considering how well english teams have performed in uefa competitions lately.

Congratulations to Taylor and an appointment that reflects well on English officiating.

I'm a bit surprised that Attwell is VAR as I sensed UEFA had lost a bit of trust in English VARs but hopefully all goes well in that regard.

Congratulations to the English officiating team. I guess this solves the question of whom the European masters consider the better out of Taylor and Oliver or perhaps relative ages are a factor ? Let's hope everyone in the team justifies the honour given and the faith placed in them.

I think UEFA have seen Taylor as above Oliver since his famous night involving Juventus (even though penalty and red card were correct) but Taylor fully deserves this appointment and hope it goes well!

Oliver has already had the UEFA super cup and I think will definitely get another UEFA final, but he has time on his side as he is 37 or 38

Unless I am mistaken UEFA refs have to stand down on 31st December having reached 45. Taylor will be 45 on 20th October so presumably will lose his badge then, unless granted a 1 year extension.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

They can have at least 2 (Kuipers had 2) +1 years assuming a) their federation nominate them each year, b) they have obtained the required merit marks (and the fact he has the UEL final suggests he does this year so far!), c) they pass the fitness test and, d) they pass some extra medical tests for those over the age of 45.
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

I think Atkinson did the Europa League final in 2015 (Clattenburg had already done the Super Cup at the start of that season) and then of course Clattenburg went on to do CL/Euros final in 2016.

I think perception for a while has probably been Taylor is slightly ahead of Oliver at UEFA level so this appointment might reflect that. But as mentioned Oliver did Super Cup at start of season and relative ages means makes sense to give it to Taylor now out of the two.

For the most part, Taylor and Oliver's international careers seem to have been able to go neatly alongside one another without either especially having a detrimental impact on the other - both were selected for Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022 for instance and seemed to do relatively well.
