I really don't like the Makkelie appointment. It seems that UEFA is more interested in money than refereeing.

Terrible management by Rosetti.

I commented elsewhere that if a referees appointments were affected by CORRECT decisions agaiinst certain big clubs then we are in a deplorable situation. No incentive to do your job in the big moments.
I trust Makellie has strong people around him to keep him focussed.

Link? This is not meant to be public - UEFA rules.  They will remove people from games - including finals if released before they ok it

Reported by BBC Sport, RMC Sport and Marca to name just a few.

Good luck to the whole team.

As I said before a political appointment rather than one based on performances.

I really feel bad for Makkelie - he's been outstanding. Turpin doesn't not deserve it on merit though.

I recall that many (many)years ago, UEFA decided that European Cup Finals should not be refereed by officials from the country in which the match was to be played. The reason given was that it placed extra pressure on the referee. When was this ruling abandoned?

Bjorn Kuipers did the 2013 Europa League Final in Amsterdam - others may recall earlier examples.
