After some of the negative comments about Daniel Siebert's performance in England v Poland, is it a surprise to see him appointed for Inter - Real Madrid?

A big game on paper at least for Liverpool - AC Milan for Marciniak

A surprising set of appointments IMO.

A risky move to put Siebert on the Inter v Real Madrid. I wonder if that was going to go to Brych but has been altered at late notice?

A very important observer for Gözübüyük. With Kuipers retiring his spot is up for grabs plus let’s hope the VAR in that game is up to the mark given Dallas is observing.

Scharer with an important observer too.
Marciniak with a good appointment.

Just noticed that Attwell is VAR to Oliver on Tuesday and Assistant VAR to Irrati the next day. Where actually will he be?

In Nyon. All selected VAR and AVAR for UCL and UEL will be there for 3-4 days.

Thanks edy.  It's near Geneva I believe and where they were based for the Euros.

Have you any views on some of the referee appointments for the CL over the 2 days?  Some surprises in my eyes but maybe not so much to others.

I actually like this strategy in appointments from Rosetti.

Referees like Siebert and Gözübüyük need to prove themselves before a promotion to the Elite. The Elite category has already faced 3 departures so Rosetti needs to bring fresh blood. If you add the referees who are under-performing (Collum, Sidiropoulos, Kulbakou, Aytekin) there aren't many options for the big matches.

Also the appointments of Sanchez Martinez, Frankowski and Schärer are an encouraging sign towards that direction.

Agreed, with 2 big hitters retiring, that certainly makes this seasons appointments very interesting indeed, especially when it comes to the knockout stages. Uefa seem to really be pushing Siebert at the moment, wonder if they’ve finally settled on him as bryche’s successor, as they were pushing the likes of Zwayer and Stieler at one point. But quickly moved on from them after poor matches.

Let's hope his performances aren't following theirs...

CL debut for Lawrence Visser and with an important observer.

Normal appointments for Karasev and Cakir. Bastien with a CL match after some not so convincing performances.

Interesting that there is a German VAR presence with an all Spanish line up in Paris…

I’m guessing there are a few Spaniards out on Thursday in the UEL.

IIRC this is Zwayers first visit to Old Trafford since the security fiasco , I’m not best pleased to see him on a match which Utd can I’ll afford to lose as I don’t really rate him would rather have had Deniz Aytekin
