Ondřej Pechanec is a new name to me, with an important observer. Any information on this official from CZE?

He's been getting some of the big fixtures in the Czech league over the past two seasons. I think he could be regarded as the third best behind Ardeleanu and Orel.

edit: In the top 4 anyway, forgot about Berka.

1st Qualifying Round (1st Leg)

6 July 2021

18:00 CET - Budapest (Groupama Aréna)
Ferencvárosi TC (HUN) - FC Prishtina (KOS)
Referee: David Munro (SCO)
Assistant Referee 1: Daniel McFarlane (SCO)
Assistant Referee 2: Calum Spence (SCO)
Fourth Official: Euan Anderson (SCO)

UEFA Referee Observer: Tomasz Mikulski (POL)
UEFA Delegate: Aleksandr Keplin (KAZ)

Decent outing for the ref this eve.  7 YC in the game, none were wrong, imo, and none were missed.  I was surprised come final whistle that there had been 7, it didn't feel like that sort of game but I didn't moan about any at the time!  Strange game - snooze worthy for 70 mins, then Fradi scored 3 goals in 7 mins & that was it - game over! Originally 5 min TAO which extended to nearly 7 following a YC & a couple of players going down with cramp.  Would like to see him in a more challenging game but he and his team can be happy with their performance.

Sorry but a question I should have asked years ago!

When appoint officials to international (Champions/Europa Leagues, EUROs and WC qualifiers) does the UEFA/FIFA Referee's' Committee nominate a country and the national association then names the referee (or all the officials) or does the UEFA/FIFA Referee's Committee name the referee and all the other officials in the team?

UEFA appoint the referees and ARs, they are normally pretty established teams anyway, and the Country FA of the referee appoints the 4O.

Very early stages the referees home FA may also appoint the AR's with the referee given a bit of a choice or that could just be for friendly matches actually.

The referee is always 100% a UEFA appointment.

Are category 1 referees necessary?

I think so. It would be a bit absurd IMO to hermetically appoint a 2nd Cat to eg. PSV Eindhoven - Galatasaray, a top clash, especially for this stage of the competition.

Ondřej Pechanec is a new name to me, with an important observer. Any information on this official from CZE?

Yes, sending Trefeloni to Yerevan surely says sth.

Pechanec is quite a talented, natural referee IMO - and after Královec retiring and Ardeleanu being totally removed by the new head of refereeing in the Czech Republic(!), I guess they are looking for a new referee to push from CZE.
