Great appointment for Oliver. Hope he has a good match. Did he really need the VAR appointment at Leeds tonight?

A bit odd that Madley is a FIFA referee and trusted to be Fourth Official on a game of that magnitude but they'll only give him a PL game once in a blue moon!

I was wondering that too.... Pawson is probably the senior of the three officials aside Oliver, yet he is only AVAR to Attwell.

Would be interesting in if Oliver went over. Big pressure on Madley if needed on a big match with Rossetti as observer.

Attwell seems to be senior VAR for England, so that may be where he is heading career-wise - maybe another Irrati, who seems to be the Italian equivalent.

Madley has refereed more games in Europe this season than games in our top flight, and now given 4th official on a massive game - curious appointing from all.

Not the first time this season that he has been VAR the evening before flying out to a European appointment.  Stockley Park is near and handy for Heathrow though.

Probably MD2. Or the worst scenario is EL.

Forgive my ignorance here, but Andris Treimanis (LVA) is a name that I am not familiar with. Is he new to the Elite list this season?
David Silva olé.

He is First Group and not Elite. He is considered a talented referee and has already a FIFA tournament on his palmares.

At the start of this season these formed UEFA's elite list. A combination of covid & injuries result in some newish names in CL. And Rosetti/Italy will want more than 1 Italian! Throw in the VAR requirements too (some countries don't have VAR in their domestic competition).

Hungary had Viktor Kassai on the list as well, although he retired 5 days into the year! He technically remained on the list.

With Kuipers being 47 an already on a +1 year, does he come off the list in December?

If he meets the criteria for a further +1 he may well be offered it as the Euro's have been moved.  Not sure there are set rules on how many +1 years they can have. Edy will probably know more than me.

If I was Referees Officer I would want to keep my experienced referees and any who were eligible this June should be retained until next July minimum.
Kuipers is such a safe pair of hands I would definitely want him

I get where you are coming from but a bit unfair on those who were forced to stop at 45 or after the +1 year

That's always been the case though. As soon as FIFA dropped the retirement age, with certain criteria met, it was "unfair" on those who came before them. That's life. No referee is guaranteed a +1 year, they have to meet set criteria & be put forward for nomination by their Country FA. Some countries still adopt a 45 year retirement age or set number of years in the top flight before enforced retirement . here's never going to be a perfect system unless all countries have to adopt the same criteria.
