Kavanagh definitely looks like he's being fast tracked. Rosetti and co. seem to rate him highly.

Also interesting to see such a senior elite official like Brych assigned to this round. Usually we don't see the big hitters until the play offs.

Kavanagh certainly gets some big appointments. But after his performance at the UYL final, I doubt that he is Elite material.

Strange that Brych is used on this round but I suspect that this appointment is linked with the Greek Cup final played on 12/09. Brych is also appointed there.

What happened in the UYF edy??

I think Kavanagh May well be promoted if not Jan then possibly next June. In terms of big derbies, he’s had Liverpool v Everton. Some would argue there is no bigger derby in the PL..

Here’s my view on these incidents. Overall I think Kavanagh has done well with judgement but I think the way he deals with the incidents could be stronger/vocal. Obviously I haven’t seen the entire game so don’t know what it’s been like
Ignoring the offside:
1. Not violent conduct - hardly any contact white player makes the most of it. Free kick maximum
2. Good decision for penalty - trip by white defender
3. Good decision - no handball by defender
4. Not VC by red goalkeeper - shoves him with shoulder into his chest - yellow card correct decision. Maybe a yellow for awful play acting by white 11 who goes down holding his face
5. Not sure about this penalty shout. Can’t tell from that angle if there’s any holding, would need to see other angles
6. No foul by keeper plays ball cleanly
7. Again no VC by red 17. Little contact, white player again overreacts makes most of it.
8. Same as before, don’t even think he touches white player
9. This one I think could have been dealt with better. Free kick for push by white 2 is clear, but he allows them to get too close which causes small fracas. I Think White 2 kicks out but impossible to see clearly unless close up. Should be red card for white 2 for VC.

I should add I can’t believe the awful play acting and overreacting to the fouls here- and these are 17-18-19 yo kids. Teach em young!!

Edited to remove the videos - it will slow down the site badly for those on mobile phones. If anyone needs to look at them they are in Edy's post. bmb x

If wanting to be picky there were some minor decisions I didn't agree with, both ways but overall a decent enough performance from this ref. Fitness was good, quickly built up a great rapport with both teams, lots of talking that looked pretty relaxed in nature. One offside call from AR2 that I don't think was correct but we never got to see a replay because it led to a bit of fun and games and a strippagram ref! Ref was tapping his headset and seemed to be indicating to players of both sides that there was a problem with the comms system, he went over to AR2 who then lifted up the refs shirt and was having a fiddle with something under his shirt, couldn't see what as it was the opposite side to the cameramen. This was followed by the ref returning to the pitch and spending some time re-adjusting himself, which also involved partially pulling his shorts down! Not too much on display for the ladies watching but it was a highlight in the game!! ;D

If UEFA wish to send strippagram refs to Hungary in the future then Missy bmb would be happy to supply a list of candidates for the role! ;)

The Fradi fans were amazing - not allowed in the ground as per UEFA's rules so they set up their own fanzone around the perimeter of the ground and the noise was phenomenal. I had praised Fradi getting the fake crowd noise spot on but it wasn't fake, it was the fans outside! The TV company didn't show them until the end of the game. They were literally non stop noise. I think many will still be there celebrating! Fair play to the Rendőrség who just let them get on with it, the relationship between the ultras and the Rendőrség is not the best shall we say but they weren't in overkill numbers as is often the case and they just stood back ensuring the fans stayed off the roads but allowing them to enjoy the occasion.

Assuming Michael Oliver carried out his VAR duties today for the Chelsea - Liverpool game, he doesn't have a lot of time before his game in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
It made me wonder about travelling arrangements.  I'm not sure if there are direct scheduled flights between London and Tel Aviv at present.  Are UEFA using private jets when necessary, especially given the risk of flights being cancelled anyway?

An interesting question, to which I don't know the answer! Presumably if they were getting general flights then quarantine rules would apply (where relevant) so I wouldn't be surprised if they have specialist provisions.

I think it has to be played within 48 hours or they forfeit the game as a 3-0 defeat. They are given the chance to field their youth/B side first & if they can't do so then they are gone.

Do I take it that Oliver's game in Tel Aviv is going ahead then?  Can't help wondering how he and his team feel about it personally but they've just got to get on with it and hopefully put in a good performance.

Absolutely superb performance from this referee tonight but 1 penalty shout that who knows!!! Fitness and movement around the pitch excellent. Great rapport with players from both teams. Calmly explained some decisions which was well received by players. 2 massive decisions. One non penalty call - ball hit the defender well above the sleeve line and his arm from the elbow up was touching his body. The defender was halfway to the floor and partially facing away. He ruled it out immediately but asked for a VAR review - explained to the players it was being reviewed. Did an on screen review and stuck with his original corner decision - I think correctly. Not even 5 mins later, similar call at the opposite end. This time the ball hit slightly lower down the arm and the player was standing up facing the striker. I felt his arm was close into his body and in a natural position. Not a pen in my head but probably a pen within the current dreadful LOTG.  Been trying to explain the difference to the magyar foci crowd and they are completely baffled! None of us agree that Fradi should have had a penalty but whether or not the decision was correct is another matter! Would like someone else to have a look and tell me.  As soon as I have a link I will add it.
