My comments earlier perhaps didn't fully reflect my position on Kovacs so just to clarify, I think his R16 appointment is deserved, I think he is a good referee with talent as I said but I do question if he is ready for EURO. Again I appreciate that he has ability but like you say bmb he is not the finished article.

4O and an early round appearance I think he would do well. Even I concede he is probably not yet ready for the latter stages. If nothing else I'd love to see him there even as "just" a 4O, the experience he would gain would be fantastic.  Didn't they do similar with Turpin at a recentish tournament? His development since has been superb. Good to see him & Hategan working together more, with one as referee and the other as 4O, I think they will both benefit from it.
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

Well thinking about it further assuming there are 18 refs attending I wonder which referees would push Kovacs out of that 18? I think it will be a tight call really, it is important to prime referees for future tournaments, Turpin attended EURO 2016 (probably being French helped) he did two group games I think and did very well, at the time he had done 5 CL games and no KO matches and look where he is now! So maybe it could indeed be a great springboard for Kovacs if he attends.

I didn’t expect Karasev on the city game, and I think he is still a 50/50 shot for the Euros.
Not sure however if the observer is important for him? I’m sure Edy could clarify for us all.

I didn't expect Karasev. I also agree that his Euro spot is 50/50.

But I expected a more important observer (perhaps committee member) as in Kovacs case.

Since both Taylor and Oliver had a match last week, I wasn't expecting English officials now.

The draw for the QFs has kept the 3 English teams apart.

    Manchester City v Borussia Dortmund
    Porto v Chelsea
    Bayern Munich v PSG
    Real Madrid v Liverpool

I wonder if Taylor is in with a chance of one of the 2 ties between BM and PSG?

Only if UEFA prepared to let him have PSG 2 rounds running.
More likely shift over to Europa League

I would say possibly

Man City vs Borussia Dortmund  Mateu Lahoz and Turpin
Porto vs Chelsea Brych and Makilelle
Bayern Munich vs PSG Oliver and Kuipers
Real Madrid vs Liverpool Orsato and Cakir

It would be quite unfortunate if all the English teams made it through the 1/4 finals... that would make it impossible that we will see Oliver or Taylor again this season in the Champions League.

However, a really strong chance now that the EL final could head their way if Arsenal falter.

Incidentally, Kuipers has to be a lock for one of the Liverpool ties IMO.

I think Cakir is a lock for one of the Liverpool - Real Madrid games, not Kuipers. Kuipers refereed Real in the group stage, but Cakir didn't.
I personally think two of Orsato, Brych, Cakir will referee the two legs between Liverpool and Real.

I can't see an English ref appointed to UEL until there is a pathway that doesn't have an English team involved.

I would suggest a first leg tie is possible
(Although why any referee would be stupid enough to engineer a result that may or may not be beneficial to a potential English team, if they also got through, is beyond me. Or that any team might use that as an excuse - only in football is that even talked about)
