Certainly in England I think the government are desperate not to prevent organised sports from carrying on, after all football is still fine even in cities and areas in tier 3.  Problematic yes for leagues that span tier 3 and tier 1/2 areas as clubs from the former can't travel to the latter (but match officials can), but football is still being played.  Of course a full lockdown is going to wipe out non-professional sport, but I think they would allow everything above National League to carry on unlike the last lock down.

Where I am a little baffled is how countries are saying they are doing a two to four week lock down to get control back, as after two to four weeks following the March full lockdown it took the best part of four months to lift those restrictions and I can't see why it would be any different now.  I fear that if a full lock down is implemented that will be in place until at least March, they will just keep extending at the end of every period.

Very insightful post and I think that we are all baffled as to how they are going to resolve things.
I honestly don't think that any government in any country has the answer and they will just keep bumbling along until what? Strange times for us all.

New Zealand smashed Covid as did Taiwan.
Here in Australia our state governments went hard early on it. Borders were closed unless essential.
Victoria has just come out of their hard lockdown that went for over 100 says. But here is the evidence
On July 30, England had 600 or so cases and Victoria had 700. The Victorian Premier went to hard lockdowns and the whole state almost stopped. He rode the negative media especial from Murdoch media.
Today Victoria are now 4 days in a row with 0 community transition.
New South Wales is down to under 4 community transition a day and our contact tracing is amazing!!!

How to beat Covid look to these 3 countries; NZ Aus and Taiwan.

This is precisely why I think we will still be in lockdown past Dec 2. It’s a shame our Australian friends aren’t in charge of the British Isles.

Great appointment for Madden. Another Spanish referee for Guardiola, I guess he’ll be happy it’s not Lahoz who has the other group match!

Bastien with another appointment in Russia...

Important observer for Gözübüyük, he seems to be impressing at the moment.

The biggie of the day goes deservedly to Turpin.

Bastien again in Russia. Expected Spanish appointments in group C.

Gozubuyuk with another CL appointment. UEFA wants to promote him after Kuipers retires. But, in my book, he is not Elite material.

Finally, it seems that UEFA continues the same policy regarding appointments like last year. MD 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 are appointed together.

Presumably these mixed nationality VAR appointments are to train up the AVAR in the VAR role?

Danny Makkelie (NED) replaces Aliaksei Kulbakou (BLR) on the Salzburg - Bayern match. Doveri (ITA) is now FO.

A big game for Marciniak this time.

And yet another trip for Michael Oliver.  Not sure if it signifies he's looked on more favourably now by Rosetti and Co, or that he's still under the microscope, or there's no real significance to read into it.

Another new name for me to watch!

Thanks to new lockdown measures coming in I have been denied permission to travel despite having UEFA media accredited tickets for the game :(  M4sport it is then!
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

I sometimes think we do over read and over think appointments. At this stage its about getting games, impressing where you can and avoiding the errors.
With 4 English teams qualified, 4 groups are off limits currently so this narrows the available games. Add to this we have 2 Elite refs plus Pawson and Kavanagh who could get games and the number of possibilities drops again.
I think the only time really to assess progress/position is the KO games

Dallas observing Zwayer is predictable....

Important observers for Dias and Grinfeld as well.

Normal appointment for Brych.
