I might be in the minority here but fir me that decision is fine.

The arms (both) are outstretched away from his body, thus making himself bigger.
The arms are still moving when they block what for me looks a goal bound shot (instep of forward at an inwards angle towards goal, keeper on floor).
I think it is a DOGSO and correct in law.

I'm OK with your view RefObserver, but this was an 'international friendly' and I would ask the question, what the so-and-so was VAR being used in this and a few other 'friendlies'? From what I saw of the incident, this was one which the ref would not have given had VAR not checked it out. As it is, a Welsh player has to sit out a game in the build-up to the Euros, and if VAR is used in the remaining friendlies to come, then a player could be sitting out the first of the Euro group games, which seems patently unfair. All or nothing in my view!

VAR training/match experience for match officials where it's not used domestically perhaps?  There's a few refs at the Euro's whose domestic leagues aren't yet blighted ahem don't have VAR so their opportunities for match experience are limited. Saudi Arabia have always been very accommodating in allowing Federations to send people there for VAR experience as are Greece but, as there is this whole global pandemic still sticking around, there have been issues with not being allowed to travel.

I certainly don't have an issue with VAR being used in friendly internationals 'for training purposes'. However it should not be used in these instances to get players red carded. Instead incidents such as that in the France v Wales match should be noted as a potential red card offence missed by the referee and no further action should be taken. I note that the Wales authority are looking to appeal the red card and I hope they succeed.

Agree, his arms just shouldn't be up there.  I don't think he has intentionally handled it, but under the current laws that is handball, and once it is given a red card is inevitable.

That said, I really don't think VAR should be being used in friendlies.

I can't see a listing for the Hungary v Cyprus game tomorrow. I have looked on the uefa website!

If anyone can help please...
According to the law 5 website, Matej Jug is the referee. No assistants or fourth official listed though.

Full line up courtesy of Law 5 Twitter peep.

I assume Tiago Martins did not have the benefit of VAR at the Riverside this evening. England's 1st penalty, from which they scored to win the match, was very soft, even I suggest lamentably soft, Grealish falling over at the slightest touch. The second penalty was more clear cut, but memo to Southgate, do not let Jordan Henderson anywhere near the line up to take penalties during the Euros. Played 59, goals 0, and that was never likely to alter, even with a goalie who kept his hands behind his back until the kick was taken. Southgate was apparently not amused.

Wow -- Grealish falling over at the slightest touch --that must have been a real shock, surely he doesn't usually do this, it certainly must have been a foul because he has had plenty this season for exactly the same thing.
A very good player who does everything in his power to draw fouls and manages to get them, however, some defender will mark his card and will ensure that he isn't just playing at it.
Referee's decision used to be final!

I would add Henderson who having been absent and missed the final third of the season is lucky to be in the squad. Oh if only we had ward-prowse

Aside of looking like the sugar plum fairy, how did he get on?  I was watching the NT.

8th June 2021
Hungary V Republic of Ireland
Referee: Daniel Stefanski (POL)

I had thought I didn't know this ref but recognised him when I saw him.  Very in the background, chilled out performance from him. Did what he had to, when he had to, which was not very often! Players liked and respected him and lots of big smiles and handshakes post match.  He was on a winner pre match as soon as Missy bmb saw the red shirt!! Red shirted refs in my home stadium is always going to earn mega bmb brownie points!!

Anyone want to tell me who the 4th official was though? He's heading right into my totty list (despite the fact he looked about 18...)!!

Krzysztof Jakubik is 37/38. He is an UEFA 2nd Group referee promoted on December 2019. Not many matches on his palmares and mostly EL qualifiers.

Qatar 1-3 Portugal today refereed by Gergo Bogár assisted by Péter Garai and Norbert Bornemissza with Ferenc Karako as fourth official.

Two red cards brandished to Qatar including the Qatari goalkeeper in the first half. 😳

I love Norbert! He's one of my favourites!  There again after a season long working a lot with the lovely Mr Solymosi he is now bald - I'm pretty sure those 2 things are connected somewhere! Are there any highlights TTFL? I didn't watch! The ground it was played at is very close to the Hungarian branch of bmb towers. Had we been in residence there currently we would have gone to the game. Gergő is our future elite referee.
