Congrats - don't think this has been his finest season but I usually rate him as a very safe pair of hands

I'm in two minds about this really.

I don't think he's been one of the best performers this season. Indeed, I said towards the end of the group stage that I didn't think he deserved a single knockout stage appointment (a performance in a Man City game was especially dreadful) so I can't really support this appointment.

On the other hand, he has been a safe pair of hands for many eyars and a referee that I have generally liked. I think his style should suit an all-English final quite well.

Not Been His Best Season, but he could have had it the last couple of years or so, congrats to all.

Out of interest, why do they announce the appointments for CL/EL finals so far in advance when normally it is just 48 hours (although I suppose this is true for domestic cup finals too.)

It's probably worth pointing out that UEFA won't be implementing the new IFAB law changes until the start of their competitions for next season (i.e. from 25th June) - thus the finals of Europa/Champions League, Nations League games, international qualifiers in June and U21 Euros will continue to implement the 'current' laws.

In contrast, FIFA are already applying the new law changes for the U20 World Cup and they will be used for the women's World Cup this summer.
