Interesting that UEFA are taking this stance when last year they wouldn’t allow English officials to referee CL KO stage games as they don’t have VAR, but this year every country is being deployed one !
I think it is just about practicalities.
Last year, it was only the Champions League knockout stage that used VAR so it made sense to use a small pool of referees that had plenty of experience with VAR.
This year, VAR is more settled into UEFA competitions and they've needed more referees to cover using it across the CL group stages and now in the EL knockout stage too. Presumably they've had more training and guidance in the past 12 months too, as well as the chance (for some of them) to use it in other tournaments such as U21. At some point, you've got to give people the experience - it just didn't especially make sense to do that right away last year.
Never heard so much tripe. Why do you continuously defend things cannot he defended? UEFA continuously moving the goalposts to suit their own agenda stinks of hypocrisy! They need to be called out!!
