Lucky for Douglas Ross that the hiatus in the day job makes him available.

I vaguely remember Ross saying a few years ago that he was going to  step down from officiating?

Does he get many international appointments? Who knows, parliament might be recalled by Wednesday night!

He's a politician, though. Can we believe him?

A point for the admin I think. I wondered why dave26 was talking about 'bad spelling' in Vlad's post. I tried to put in 'informative' and got the same 'bad spelling' (twice) which, fortunately, I was able to undo before it was too late. Keep up the good work Vlad, your posts are always informative

Think you got the wrong person I haven’t and never have pointed out bad spelling to anyone

See reply 49 in this thread. I think the suggestion is this was not intentionally done so could be a gremlin in the system somewhere.

It seems the informative button has been having a mad 5 mins and shown bad spelling instead of informative - as Reading fan says - see post 49. You show as having used the bad spelling button on Vlads post but I suspect that's not the one that you hit!!

The biggest match of the MD goes, deservedly, to Anthony Taylor. Also a very good appointment for Makkelie.

Fandel observing too.. a great chance to impress. It’s clear that Rosetti is swaying towards Taylor as the no 1 in England. I disagree if that sentiment is reality, as I think Oliver is ahead of Taylor in the pecking order.

Me too, can’t see the hype in a Taylor. For me Oliver is streets ahead and always has been.

Does Vlad or Edy know why Rossetti views Taylor as no1 as for me it’s clear to see Oliver is far far better than Taylor

I too rate Oliver the higher although I think Taylor has been in very good form recently and can certainly put in excellent performances.

I'd be open to both Oliver and Taylor going to the Euros next summer as I think that both are probably in the best 18 referees in Europe right now.

IMO, Taylor simply suits better to the UEFA style of refereeing. Always focused, quickly making (big) decisions, firmer presence and less error-prone than Oliver so far what could be the most important factor. I already wrote that somewhere that Oliver is clearly ahead of Taylor in Premier League but it's the other way round in UEFA. In addition, Oliver has much time to develope in UEFA (34yo) while Taylor is already 41yo.

From what I've seen so far this season, Taylor has been better than Oliver (though Oliver has been pretty good himself), and this is very much a deserved appointment.

IMO Oliver still pays the Real-Juve QF. It was a silly decision to appoint him on that match since he was clearly not ready. UEFA doesn't want their referees to create fuss.

Taylor has been really impressive those last months. He surely has Rosetti's trust and I think that he may be a candidate for a Final already.

IMO Oliver had a good game that night and he was completely in the right to dismiss Buffon surely a referee shouldn’t pay for making a correct decision even if it creates attention. I agree that Taylor has somewhat improved the last few months but Oliver is still the best by far imo.
