General Discussion / Re: Chelsea v Leicester

Clearly outside the box and obviously a DOG SO. Goodness knows why Madley got the call doubly wrong, it seemed pretty straightforward.

I think its harsh to criticse Madley, at full speed it looked a penalty, but VAR did its job and got the right decision.
the only questionI would have had if it had of been inside would VAR have overturned i, as he was nowhere near playing the ball.

No way it will be overturned on appeal.

I woud argue it isviolent conduct rather than SFP, as he made no attempt to play the ball whatsoever.
"kicks or attempts to kick" I assume is still in the LOTG.

General Discussion / Re: Blue cards for football
« on: Sat 10 Feb 2024 21:28 »
When sin-bins first came in at Supply League I felt they were used well and in the main there was an improvement on dissent towards officials.

Now however, I feel that a large number of referees feel that given the sanction is more severe than a caution, they set a much higher tolerance level to dissent than previously.
As such, I do not think it has improved matters, in fact I think it has made it worse.

I do not think anything will be different at the top level.

As someone who is involved in the running of a league, it is clear when they were 1st introduced they were used widely.

However some years on they are now in comparison rarely used.

I think the blue card is a good idea to inicate the sin bin but not for the 'cynical fouls' as proposed.

It was such a bad foul no free kick was even given.

Kavanagh should have had the conviction to stand by his decision

Another embarasing VAR intervention

The buck stops with the referee, he had the opportunity to right the ridiculous decision of the VAR to review and he bottled it.

Most Saturdays see this page full of complaints but today I break that because Mr England’s performance in this game was nothing short of superb , by a very long way the best referee I’ve seen in Plymouth games this season so far bar none , superbly accurate in his foul detection , moved around with ease and always close to play , excellent communication with the players and his assistants , he was calmness personified never flustered hardly questioned by the players and got all his cards spot on .  Mr England was clearly a class above this level but gave the match his full respect and attention, I cannot praise him enough , in the old marking system 10/10 from me .

I do think having seen the higlights that he should have sent off the Plymouth player for a DOGSO on the Boro winger.

General Discussion / Anthony Taylor (Brighton v Liverpool)

Penalty given for Liverpool, no problem but why no red card?

I have a little sympathy for him being given a 2nd yellow card, but he did move at least 10yds towards the ref waving his hands and said wahtever he said.

But where I have no sympathy is he was whinging about a nothing foul on the half way line which resulted in the ball almost imediately being played out for a Sunderland goal kick.
Well worth whinging about not!!!!

But to blame the referee for applying the laws (whatever is tolerance level) by fellow officials is not what I would expect.

A red for me, well done VAR.

however it looks like Hooper has slipped back to old ways of letting players delay the game by holding onto the ball, and then waving a finger at them instead of carrying out instructions.

Do we know which SG1 referees have the Middlesbrough and Stoke games in the EFL this weekend?

Middlesbrough v Southampton (15:00)
TIM ROBINSON
Marc Perry and Steven Meredith
Fourth Official: Gavin Ward

Stoke City v Hull City (12:00)
THOMAS BRAMALL
Assistant Referees: Adrian Holmes and Simon Long
Fourth Official: James Linington

Some would say, not me of course there are plenty of 'robots' already officiating at the top level.

It looked wrong so that should have been enough for VAR to ask the Ref to view.
Simple as that

General Discussion / Re: Mike Dean VAR Comments

I agree it does harm the PGMOL

It perhaps adds more weight to needing to hear the conversation between VAR and the Referee, to ensure these pally deals arent being done.

General Discussion / Mike Dean VAR Comments
« on: Thu 24 Aug 2023 22:12 »

"Former Premier League official Mike Dean has admitted that he refused to intervene on one of last season’s biggest VAR controversies because the on-pitch referee ‘was a mate’.

The 55-year-old, who spent 22 years refereeing in the top flight, became a dedicated VAR official last season after hanging up his whistle but made a high-profile gaffe in just the second matchday of the season.

Dean was on VAR duty for Tottenham’s visit to Chelsea on 16 August 2022, with Anthony Taylor the on-field referee, and both managed to miss Cristian Romero’s clear hair pull on Marc Cucurella in the final moments of the game.

The Argentine centre-back should have been shown a red card but instead Dean chose not to intervene, with Spurs equalising from the subsequent corner, and he was stood down from duty for the following gameweek.

Dean, who has left his role with PGMOL and is part of Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday programme, has now revealed that it was a conscious decision not to send Taylor to the monitor because he did not want to create any more ‘grief’ for his friend.

Speaking on the Up Front podcast with Simon Jordan, Dean – who regrets his decision – explained: ‘I missed the stupid hair pull at Chelsea versus Tottenham which was pathetic from my point of view.

‘It’s one of them where if I had my time again, what would I do? I’d send Anthony [Taylor] to the screen. I think I knew if I did send him to the screen … he’s cautioned both managers, he’s had a hell of a game, it’s been such a tough game end to end.
