General Discussion / Re: C KAVANAGH - Palace v Everton (FA)

Not a red for me. Yes the point of contact is high with studs showing however he only brushes the defender and there's minimal contact and so for me does not tick the boxes for a dangerous challenge and he isn't out of control either. If the contact had been more substantial then I would have accepted a red card.

I think it's safe to say that Sam Barrott and Josh Smith are sg1 even if they are listed as sg2. There are a few of the national list who are now sg2 even if they are listed as national group given the amount of championship games they are getting.

Cup Appointments / Re: EFL Cup [Carabao Cup] - 2023/2024

Depending on how the 1st legs go I think Bankes and Madley will get the other 2 with Kavanagh on the final
Madley's a good shout as he has had a decent season except for the Palace vs Liverpool game. Not sure about Banks as haven't really watched any games that he's reffed but not heard that many complaints about him so would probably deserve it.

I'd love to know if anyone has ever refereed a cup semi-final in their 1st season in the prem although it is a well deserved appointment for Sam. Less so for David Coote who given his performances this season doesn't warrant a semi-final. My prediction for the next leg is for Jarred Gillett to referee Chelsea vs Middlesbrough and Rob Jones to referee Liverpool vs Fulham.

Rob Jones is a Scouser (I believe?) so no chance of him doing our game with Liverpool
That is something i did not know. Not sure who else i'd have to referee liverpool vs fulham apart from maybe someone like Kavanagh or Oliver.

Good luck to Barrott but part of me wonders if he is being pushed a little too much and, once again, what some of his peers feel. They are only human and I am sure there will be some bitterness or anger among a few of them, wondering why they have never been given such a chance.
I agree with you in regards to him being pushed to hard which i've said on another post in the West Ham vs Brighton game yesterday but i don't agree with you in regards to how other people think as there are only a few refs this season that have been good and would deserve such an honour.

General Discussion / Re: Sam Barrott- West Ham vs Brighton

It is indeed given where both teams are in the table. I do however worry he is being pushed to hard as his last 3 games he has had negative comments about his performance especially last week where he missed a very clear penalty and red card for dogso. That's not to say i don't think he's good because ever since i saw him referee cardiff vs swansea a few months back i knew he was going places but i just think he needs a few games out of the limelight.
Looks as if this was one of those games in which I was saying about being out of the limelight and he's got another coming up on Friday albeit in front of the cameras. What I do like about Sam is that he rarely gives a soft penalty where as there are lot of refs like Anthony Taylor yesterday who seem to give them all the time. The only annoying thing about tonight as has been demonstrated on this post is the colour of kit he was wearing.

What colour was that? 🤪
Yellow with a tiny bit of orange :D

Having seen both penalties I don't think either of them are penalties especially the 2nd one where I genuinely cannot see any contact and am surprised that VAR did not recommend a OFR where as with the 1st one there is contact but not enough for me to say that it should have been a penalty.

General Discussion / Re: D BOND - Sheff Wed v Hull
« on: Mon 01 Jan 2024 20:56 »
I can definitely see why Darren Bond gave a red card for this as the Hull player tackles with both feet off the ground and so I don't think it's as bad as people are saying but I do think that it is more of a yellow than a red due to the fact he won the ball.

I have always liked his style and hope he brings his A game to Sandy Park over this weekend.
Ramos did ok stepping in for Raynal in the opener. Frank Murphy was very good in Paris and I thought Busby stood up.well in the "bear pit" of Toulon.
Another excellent performance from Matt Carley, stood for no nonsense early on which did help the game in difficult conditions- very impressed
Felt for Mike Adamson, with all these excellent games taking place, close shorelines etc he had to try and shine in the dross of Salford. Always felt there were 1 or 2 on each side actually refereeing the game.
Craig Evans was v good in Bristol- such a shame his refereeing career hasn't pushed on, I rate him
Agreed. As a fellow welshman, I am dissapointed he didn't get a middle in the six nations but i should imagine it would have been between him and Chris Busby had Jaco Peyper retired.

Is there a specific reason as to why the 4th official hasn't been announced for one of the games?

Good no penalty call. Havertz clearly steps on the Luton's player's ankle and not the other way round.

A very calm performance from him and all the yellow cards were warranted. He also has a good rapport with the players which the likes of Tierney, Coote and Attwell don't seem to have. I also think the PGMOL are doing the right thing by giving him a premier league then followed by a Championship game so that he's not getting overwhelmed to much.
