Football League - L1 & L2 / Re: PlayOffs 2021
« on: Wed 12 May 2021 13:39 »
If Langford gets it (which is a distinct possibility) I will personally write to Mike Riley demanding he immediately resign!

Is it down to Mike Riley? I thought he only had control over SG1. According to a quick google search, i have found that Alan Wiley is in charge of SG2 and Mike Jones in charge of League 1 and 2 officials

General Discussion / Re: R Madley (Crawley v Bolton)
« on: Mon 10 May 2021 14:17 »
In the case of Madley a trial match would seem rather pointless wouldn’t it. Those games surely are to see if a referee can handle a game at that level. Having been a FIFA referee I’m sure those in the ivory towers would be fairly sure that he would be capable of that and maybe that’s why there was no trial game there

When are play off appointments usually released? And are first and second legs released at the same time?
i agree, i think he will be promoted to SG2 and then to SG1 within a few seasons.

not sure when they are released but i dont think they are released together, a few days apart. I might be wrong though

General Discussion / Re: Graham Salisbury
« on: Mon 10 May 2021 13:47 »
ahh thank you, in the clip i watched it looked like he sent that other player off and not the one who should have been sent off. but that one shows his reaction so yh it is a red card.

On the red card I actual think it is supportable. The attacker does seem to be pulled back and it is DOGSO, just because he doesn't instantly dive to the ground is no reason a foul shouldn't be awarded. While the foul itself might have fallen into the 'ignorable' category, I don't think it was a clear mistake and good to see that a player doesn't have go go to ground to get a foul.

Congratulations to Mr. Sailsbury on his very long career and best wishes for retirement.

I keep watching the highlights and can't see what the red card was for. On here it's saying dogso yet it was a foul in the middle of the half. The only thing I can see is it it was for SFP and I can't see how that has happened either.

Trivia & Humour / Re: István Kovács
« on: Wed 05 May 2021 13:27 »
I have an interview arranged with István for Hungarian media.  Should be happening in a week to 10 days time.  We're in the process of agreeing the best time at the moment & are going for after the season but pre- Euro 2021 prep being in full flow!

Does anyone have any questions they would like put to him?  I have a fair few available ready but happy to add in a few extra!  If so add them here or PM me.  I can't guarantee they will be asked or answered but they'll go on the list at least!

Who is his idols?

General Discussion / Re: Artur Dias - disaster
« on: Fri 30 Apr 2021 08:47 »
What the hell is going on? Dias has lost control. Hasn't had control since the start. Foul detection has been poor. Saka getting hacked down, looks like going to play advantage arsenal lose ball; doesn't call it back. Then for some reason had second yellowed Ceballos for a nothing foul.

Someone may correct me but I believe it has been a disaster this evening for a normally amazing referee

Is that the nothing foul where he stands on the players ankle/foot?  That is always going to be a yellow card, accidental or not.

I've been watching the NBI games so not seen the game and can't comment overall but I have seen footage on twitter where a player was given a 2nd yellow for standing on someone's ankle/foot. I think it was the Arsenal game although they were in blue and I thought Arsenal wore red so it might not even be the same game!
Imo it is a nothing foul, you may think otherwise and I don't even think he touches his ankle, literally just his boot.
Caballos was lucky not to be sent off for that foul just after half time so he knew he was on the edge. Penalty never going to be overturned but as Phil says looks like defender pulls his leg away. 2 semi finals and two below average performances

I agree, suprised he wasn't off then. Maybe he wasn't second yellowed for the foul itself maybe for the amount of fouls instead, possibly Dias has warned him on that foul and said one more and you're gone. If he's been second yellowed for that, then that is the correct decision. However, if for the foul itself, i think it is a mistake.

Thats fair enough, for me he didn't but we all have different viewpoints.

I agree both performances way under par.
