I think someone listened to me, Stuart Atwell has been replaced by Andy Madley- hopefully that is the start of some extended time off for
Ya he needs a bit of a break.was var last Saturday Monday Tuesday and Thursday.var tomorrow and middle on Sunday.surely that is to much(has to travel to nyon for champions and Europa league)

I made a comment on general discussion thread on Fulham vs Wolves game, similar to this

Just a little fact

Atwell was VAR on Saturday
Then on Monday

Then had to fly to Nyon, where he had a game Tuesday as VAR
Then AVAR on Wednesday to be back as VAR on Thursday

He will then, I am assuming fly back Friday
Where he then be VAR Saturday to then be in the middle on Sunday

That is 6 var appointments in 8 days

Someone give this man a holiday

Is that right though?

Surely the FA Cup Final appointment is made based on the referee and assistants* who are the highest placed on their respective merit lists**, who has not refereed the final before*** and who cannot referee it due to previously declared teams thy cannot referee.

* separately, not as a team
** or whatever it is called
*** yes, I know exceptions have been made to this recently re the finals during and after Covid.

As Simon Hooper has clearly referreed both Man City and Man Utd I find it impossible that he could not have been appointed to the FA Cup Final due to "one of his assistants comes from Manchester or supports a Manchester team".

I would think that would rule the assistant out, but not Simon??

Maybe he would like to work it with his team?

Cup Appointments / Re: Emirates FA Cup 2023/2024
« on: Wed 08 Nov 2023 19:08 »
I always like seeing Breakspear on the TV
always seems a safe pair of hands does his utmost best to enhance the game by letting it flow

I have always found it surprising that he has never made SG2. He is considerably better than some in the present cohort.

Never seen a bad word about him on here but maybe he doesn’t want to risk his career for going full time at SG2

Oliver getting the game of the weekend deservedly after a good intervention in the Manc derby

England still laying low, think his season won’t get any better. Very very surprised that Taylor has been put on championship duty, clearly not happy with bosses. I know Prem are contracted to have games in efl but Taylor and Oliver don’t tend to get those appointments unless they’ve messed up

Robinson getting a good run of games, which is deserved.

Jones back with another game, hoping his run gets back up and running

AR pairings this week slightly off

Glad to see Bramall finally get a game back

Brooks with decent tv game, along with Atwell, Madley, Gillet and Oliver on the other ones

40
100% a penalty, good intervention from Oliver

Tierney has had a good game so far, hopefully had a good second half

41
Good set of appointments, very happy to see Robinson on an arsenal game, safe pair of hands

Barrott seems promoted already just not officially, my thoughts are that with the pairings of linesman is that he has taken Darren England games however he wouldn’t have been given this many if he didn’t deserve them. I’ve only seen highlights of his games and he seems very promising and tbf the response on here doesn’t seem anything but positive

Surely Harrington Bond and Gillett are all injured, as they haven’t had a game in the league in ages

Feel sorry for Bramall a bit tho as he hasn’t really had a look in

The only appointment I do question tho is how has Tierney got the Manchester derby??
I would have any other referee do it, Brooks, Jones, Oliver or Taylor have had good seasons so far so why not one of them, I know Oliver had United last week but Taylor or even Jones, who proved he could handle the feisty north London derby a few weeks back

Unlikely that Gillett is injured as he was scheduled to do the postponed Rotherham v Ipswich game last Friday.

Sometimes it pays to look outside the Premier League.

Oh yes remember seeing that appointment now, sorry my bad

Yet another wrong offside decision from Adrian Holmes again today. He is becoming a liability

If your referring to the offside I think you are I was thinking the same thing but on seeing the replay it looks offside to the naked eye so can’t really blame Holmes for that

He has been poor for the last season or two at least, but on this one can’t really blame him
