I can't imagine many Leeds fans are going to be very happy seeing Robinson given such a good fixture after his shocking performance at their place on Tuesday night. I have to admit I'm shocked myself.

Maybe, but these appointments would have been made long before Tuesday and account would have been taken of past PL performances, which seem to have been good in Tim's case, rather than one indifferent Championship performance.

I know I've read on here before about the postcode rule being abolished years ago.

There is your answer

Most people on here are well aware the rule exists, what is argued is whether the rule is sensible. My opinion is, it is not, for the simple reason that it could put a referee under unnecessary scrutiny in the event of a controversial event.

Likewise, just as Madley was strangely switched, in midweek, from one relegation battle to another, because of his allegiance to Huddersfield. This weekend we have the situation where a self confessed Sheffield Wednesday fan, will be in control of a relegation affected game at Leeds.

Where is the sense in possibly leaving a referees integrity open for question?

Agreed. A tricky situation, particularly at this time of the season. I am sure that most if not all referees at the top level have allegiance to at least one club, even if it is only from childhood days. If I were a PL referee and as an avowed Crystal Palace fan who are still in the PL relegation mix, I suspect I would be knocked out of contention for not one but six out of the ten PL games this weekend, all of which involve clubs who are in the relegation mix. And this would continue until the Palace are safe (or sorry). Or am I talking a load of baloney as I often do?

I notice Chris Pollard has not refereed a game since Forest Green v Harrogate in mid-January. An injury perhaps?

Letexier's performance on Tuesday night at RM confirms that the UEFA authorities may have a problem sending Frappert to Euro 2024 as the sole female representative if the number of referees per nation is to be limited to two.

"He isn’t in the right position though as he hasn’t seen it. Comes from the top of PGMOL being too static and too straight outside the penalty area. Handball is clear but it ink also a clear pen in first half"

You can only see the handball from behind the goal or sideways on. There is no way a referee will go that deep into the box at corners so I stand by what I said.

I know I'm not disagreeing with you. For me, its a PGMOL coaching issue

So you think PGMOL should coach their referees to stand on the goal line at corners and free kicks?  If they do that then there will just be a handball somewhere else in the penalty area that he can't see, and there will also be a fast breakaway that the referee is miles away from because he has got caught up in traffic.

Referees don't have x-ray vision, and unfortunately there will be occasions that something happens when all of the officials are blocked off.  That is one of the primary reasons why VAR was brought in.

No but how about varying positions to get the full range of view rather than standing still in the same position each time

Those days are long gone. Referees at the top level are trained now to follow a well defined line so that they are in the best position to pick up on the most important issues. But as others have said, that does mean that there will be occasions when incidents are missed by the referee, ARs and not forgetting the 4O, and without VAR, this will always happen from time to time.

An excellent post as usual thank you Whistleblower. I loved the likeness with Paul Durkin, my sentiments entirely.

A football-free evening for Team Joyce, Barrow v Bradford City postponed due to a waterlogged pitch (BBC). I'm wondering whether Morecambe v Crewe may follow, with atrocious wet weather again today in the Region.

Edit - a bit of a problem perhaps with Barrow very much in the mix for the play offs, if not promotion, and the end of the main season in sight.

Absolutely no complaints but Chris Kavanagh also refereed Palace's last away game, v Nottingham Forest.

An important game for Anthony Backhouse at Bolton, as well as Simon Mather for Crewe v Grimsby where the former Crewe manager returns and a big clash at both ends of the table.

I shall not be at Crewe Alex on Saturday but I have now got my ticket for the derby showdown the following Saturday v Wrexham when I'm half-expecting royalty. We shall see!

I hope it's not David Webb. He was awful the last time I saw him at Gresty Road. Oliver, Taylor or Jones would do nicely thank you, but sadly I don't think we'll be getting any of them!

Well it’s now a 12:30 KO. Do you expect SG1? Or normal SG2 like Webb?

Sorry, mucked up my previous response (now in blue), senior moment again!

I (and several others) had him down for the EFL Final on the basis that he is a good referee and a safe pair of hands, but someone who is unlikely to progress any further up the pyramid.

Good to see Will Finnie getting a Championship game. I've seen him a couple of times at Crewe Alex and was impressed both times I think he will move up before long..

Dahane BEIDA (MTN)

Was he not the young guy who made a complete mess of the African Nations Final earlier in the year?

I’ve seen him. Has a very quiet whistle. Overall, likes to let a lot go and has good rapport with players. I saw him on Monday when he came on for AR2 (he was 4O) at Crewe v FGR.

Enjoy the game!

I saw him at Crewe Alex a while back. Nothing spectacular but a quite acceptable performance. Refereed Crewe's biggest match of recent times, away to Leeds in the ||League Cup when the Alex held out for 75 minutes in front of a capacity crowd before losing 0-3.

Crewe with Adam Herczeg who has a championship game under his belt and Scott Oldham two days after his EFL Trophy final at the different end of the country. A very strange appointment but the best of luck.

Why is it strange?

Because the final is on Sunday and then he’s at Morecambe on Tuesday. That’s already 5/6 hours travel plus resting. And if the final goes to ET then that’ll take more out of his legs.

Perhaps 'strange' was an, erm, strange choice of word.

'Unnecessary' might be more apt.

I disagree, it is a strange appointment in the circumstances correctly outlined by Ryan above

Slightly off topic but what in earth has gone wrong at Crewe recently. They’ve gone completely off the boil and in a wretched run of form.

It all went wrong when they shipped three goals in the last 20 minutes to lose 2-3 at home to Morecambe. That was also when they offered a cut-price three match season ticket, presumably to watch the 'promotion clincher' at home to Wrexham on 20th April. OK, there may be promotion issues at stake that day but it sure doesn't look as though it will involve Crewe!
