General Discussion / Re: Progress Report on the Referees« on: Sat 12 Nov 2022 10:32 »
They do have previous for promoting refs to SG1 after one season as a SG2. I can see Barrott being SG2 next season and then SG1 the year or two after.

Football League - L1 & L2 / Re: Sat 3rd – Tue 6th SEP 2022« on: Sun 04 Sep 2022 18:28 »
Sunny Gill was generally very good at Stockport v Wimbledon. Alongside Sam Barrott the best ref at Edgeley Park this year

Non-League / Re: Playoffs 2021/22« on: Thu 02 Jun 2022 13:40 »
He did Stockport v Solihull a few weeks ago and let a number of bad tackles by Solihull players go unpunished or just showed yellows. There are worse refs at that level but also better.

Cup Appointments / Re: 2021/22 The Buildbase FA Trophy« on: Sun 03 Apr 2022 23:00 »
James Bell went off injured in the first few minutes and Aaron Bannister ended up refereeing most of the Wrexham v Stockport game. He did pretty well and seemed better than a lot of NL officials.

National League presumably "trial" games for Greg Rollason and Aji Ajibola. Both also have NL teams in the next round of the Trophy as does Michael Barlow.

Welch was excellent when she did us this season and her performance was certainly a standout. There are good men who've missed out but that was always going to happen when only four go up. Both Mather and Kitchen made errors in the playoffs (and both generally did well in our normal season games btw) so they are not infallible either nor is any other official.

Select Group 2 / Re: PlayOffs 2021« on: Tue 25 May 2021 00:47 »
The ridiculous sending off of the West Ham defender in the Chelsea game was entirely his call as the on field referee which was later rescinded. He needs to up his game if he does get further exposure in Europe.
Prior to this season I had rated him but he has had few poor high profile games this season and never seems to want to change his mind on VAR reviews. 26
General Discussion / Re: Mason to retire after this season« on: Mon 17 May 2021 18:50 »
It makes sense to have recently retired refs as specialist VARs rather than burdening additional workload onto current refs. They should roll it out to some of the others who have retired in the last decade like East etc too.

I'd put Lewis Smith and David Richardson down as another couple with a good chance of making the Football League list. There's usually a dark horse who goes up after one year, which could be someone like Adam Herczeg.

General Discussion / Re: Rebecca Welch becomes first female referee to be appointed to EFL game.« on: Tue 30 Mar 2021 20:34 »
She was excellent on the Stockport v Yeovil BT game a few weeks ago and is up there with the best refs County have had this season. She correctly sent off a Yeovil defender for a cynical foul on Southam Hales in injury time at the end when it would have been easy to let it go and show yellow. Wasn't great in our game with Barrow last year but was excellent in the Yeovil game mentioned above. Deserving of this opportunity in my opinion.

It would be a bit unfair to demote him at this point after such a lengthy spell out with serious injury.
