Cup Appointments / Re: Emirates FA Cup - 2022/2023
« on: Tue 18 Apr 2023 16:47 »
Who was the last FA Cup Final referee to have not done the EFL Cup final previously?

Attwell and Tierney would be the only options

Could be Kavanagh though but it wouldn't be deserved. Hooper would deserve it.

I reckon Moss in 2015. Think he then went on to referee the EFL cup final in 2019.

Can't see Tierney getting the League Cup and the FA Cup. Simon Hooper maybe. I must admit I thought Attwell was a very firm favourite.

It’s not uncommon for FA cup final referees to have previously refereed the league cup final. It’s unlikely that a referee would do both cup finals in the same season but as Tierney did the league cup final in 2021, that’s not an issue here.

Slightly strange that neutral umpires are being used only from the 3rd ODI onwards. Perhaps this signals that from May the appointment of neutral umpires will be back to how it was pre covid?

To further back this up, I’ve read in the times of India that Nitin Menon has been appointed to the 3rd and 4th tests of the Ashes. The article also states that he’ll be joined by Dharmasena in the 3rd test and Joel Wilson in the 4th test, with Menon also being TV umpire in the 5th test.

Non Footy Appointments / ICC Elite Panel of Umpires 23-24
« on: Thu 16 Mar 2023 20:50 »
Aleem Dar has retired from the elite panel of umpires, he is replaced by compatriot Ahsan Raza. South Africa’s Adrian Holdstock is also included in the panel, taking the panel back up to 12 members.

Not sure I’ve seen this posted anywhere on here, but Richard Illingworth won Umpire of the year at the recent ICC awards. His second trophy after also winning in 2019. Congratulations to him!

Surely VAR will be used at Wolves and Leeds?

As Darren Bond has been given his first PL middle on 3rd January, I imagine he won’t be at St Andrews on the 2nd.

Andy Pycroft will lead the playing control team for the upcoming test series between Pakistan and England.

The 1st & 3rd tests will see Joel Wilson and Ahsan Raza on field. The 2nd test will be officiated by Marais Erasmus and Aleem Dar.

Surprised Raza who isn’t on the elite panel gets 2 games.

Usually follows that the Umpires for the final have both been appointed on field to a semi final as well.
