General Discussion / Re: Fifa 2022 World Cup
« on: Sat 01 Jan 2022 03:27 »
I agree that our opinions do not count, but it is fun to speculate. Here are my 10
Oliver
Taylor
Turpin
Siebert
Orsato
Makkelie
Hategin
Mateu Lahoz
Cakir
Kaseryov.

Del Cerro Grande and Vinci are my two reserves.

I think 10 referees from UEFA is not enough and i would expect more when FIFA pick them.

When KMN gave Rooney the 2nd YC and RC for his clapping, I guess like me we all hoped that incident would embolden referees to to take action and warn players to not demonstrate disrespect. Alas we were wrong.

Thought he might have got one neutral umpire for the Ashes  especially as the announcement was made before Omnicron and our quickly changed border restrictions.
Australian umpiring has changed with all three umpires enjoying a successful First Class career. Indeed Reiffel and Wilson are former Test players. Wilson just made it with one test.

Non Footy Appointments / Re: Rugby Autumn Internationals

I thought Jaco P was terrible. Over fussy does not come close and this ensured there was no flow to the game. It always seems to me that Rugby refs have the ability to either create a great game or kill one. Jaco did the latter.

General Discussion / Re: Jeff Pettitt

As a referee in Australia, I bought many resources from Jeff for many years. To own a set of Touchline flags was a status symbol.  I was able to meet him on a trip to the UK. A passionate referee who went above and beyond to help others, he will be deeply missed.
Condolences to his family and friends.
Vale Jeff Pettitt

Australian RL refereeing is not in dire straights and Sutton is not that good either. The powers that be currently won't appoint referees like Grant Atkins for some unknown reason. We also lost Matt Checchin this year who retired. He was imho the best referee but again fell foul of the powers that be. Sutton's real rise to the top occurred while his brother has in charge and he has not shaken that tag. Two years ago he was the Assistant referee to Ben Cummins and overstepped the role and this saw Ben ultimately make a game defining decision. Ben has never recovered his status from this and has not done a State of Origin match or finals game since then.

General Discussion / Re: Shrewsbury v Gillingham SAM ALLISON

Can i offer this coaching advice. I would have liked the referee to seperate the teams far better. Rugby Union referees do this really well. Then in this occasion call the players to you and issue cards once all the information has been written down so the referee and assistants are aware of who is on a 2nd. This also creates time for players to calm down.
Write on cards would be great option, you can see who has been cautioned while the card is in the air and less chance of forgetting a second YC into RC

General Discussion / Re: William Collum - Young Boys v Fradi
« on: Thu 19 Aug 2021 14:21 »
Hi All, Here is my thoughts for what they are worth on the main points.

The tackle Yc sits in the high range of a YC. Ref is correct to give it. HAd Willie C gone Red it would be wrong. Remember that the old adage of orange card is now down grade to a yellow not upgraded.
Pen andRc is spot on.
Disallowed goal is correct based on the footage shown.

Willie C will get ticks for Key decisions but and this is personal opinions... we must be the lowest of the Elite referees.
Even giving the correct decisions he does not look comfortable or inspire confidence.

One would suggest that based on the restart the attacking team has been penalised for encroachment.

William Collum the only Elite referee not to get an appointment so far???

Dare I say the numbers presented would suggest Kettleborough is the better umpire in this test.
Kettleborough 3/9 incorrect = 33.33334% incorrect
Gough 2/5= 40%

International Appointments / Re: Olympic football referees
« on: Sun 08 Aug 2021 04:24 »
RCG- Ron Wright (Great name for a referee) refereed the Gold medal match at the 1956 Olympic Games. Alex Glasgow, who became a FIFA Assistant Referee refereed the Gold Medal match at the 2000 Paralympic Gold Medal match.

Great news for the Aussie trio.
Not sure what you mean by the norm RCG, the Rio final was refereed by another AFC referee Alireza Fagahni. Who now referee's in the Australian A-League. Maybe this is the new norm. Just give the Olympic final to an Aussie referee????

Why would you automatically assume a GB ref would be there?? The appointment are done by FIFA. All the male refs are on the list for the 2022 World Cup.
