General Discussion / Re: Peter Bankes- Tottenham Newcastle
« on: Mon 28 Sep 2020 12:38 »
The question I have is what do cultures outside England think of all of this? If we logged onto the Spanish or South American Rate The Ref site, would they be calling this 'madness' or would they be saying 'That's a clear penalty - what is everyone over there complaining about?'

If the latter, then why should hte English interpretation necessarily be chosen over other views that exist across the world?

Perhaps FIFA should carry out a survey of all the 211 countries which are registered members and ask them about handball, after all, they will all be using VAR as well won't they and watching English football on TV so let FIFA earn their keep and ask the relevant questions.

Bundesliga games over the weekend - 9
Penalties awarded                            - 3
Penalties awarded for handball          - 0

Not sure if this means anything, apart from that the BL players have had at least a season to ensure that they don't put their hands in the way of the ball in the penalty area...  ??? ::) ;D

Very poor decision by Massey-Ellis with the Rashford goal that was swiftly and correctly disallowed by VAR.

Hadn't she delayed her flag in accordance with the direction, until the play had been completed?

Unlike the AR (sorry, name not known) at Burnley who flagged too early, fortunately it was shown to be correct!

Isn't it any wonder that ARs are getting it wrong when they are being told to do something that is totally against the instincts they learnt to do, without thought, during their rise to the top league!!

According to the VAR protocol, the review process can take place AFTER the final whistle.

Excellent intervention by Simon Hooper.

How long after? Could the players be in the shower and then made to come back?

In a Bundesliga game last season at half time, the players were brought back out of the dressing room to enable a penalty to be taken.

I haven't seen it but was he already going to check VAR anyway or was he influenced by the Man Utd players surrounding him?
Talksport keep going back to The Amex to check if there are any more penalties been awarded...

Only two cautions for Mr Breakspear last weekend at Stevenage, so he doesn't get a game this week!!

Don't be so sure !

Just seen 👍

When it was introduced, Rugby players were warned that they were on live mike whenever they were in the proximity of the official and tempered their language accordingly, some even apologising to both the official and the TV audience when they used language that was considered inappropriate.
Although footballers are considered of a lower form, surely they would be able to temper their language as well?
Do they swear in front of their Mum's, wives and children or temper their language appropriately?
Unfortunately, I probably already know the answer to that, but it still doesn't make it acceptable!!
It could also have the effect of helping the officials to officiate the game, by removing the foul and abusive language from 'discussions' involving the officials.

Another red card for Breakspear.... 😂😂

Straight red and justified.....again.

Serious threat that the Orient v Spurs game might be off as Orient have several Covid cases confirmed.

18 cases apparently?

General Discussion / Re: K A FRIEND - Newcastle v Brighton
« on: Sun 20 Sep 2020 23:38 »
Personally think the RC is slightly harsh. Certainly no intent to hurt Lewis, attempting to play the ball and no excessive force for me just a genuine accident. I think Friends original YC  was right. I do feel when the referee is advised to go to the monitor there will only be one outcome

Yes maybe, but it'll satisfy the pundits who had been calling for the on field official to be seen to have made the 'final decision'.

General Discussion / Re: P TIERNEY - Chelsea v Liverpool
« on: Sun 20 Sep 2020 19:21 »
Maybe this won't be a popular opinion but I actually agreed with yellow, good chance the keeper gets there first for me and enough doubt to go yellow. While if Tierney had gone red I would have expected VAR to support, I don't think yellow was a clear and obvious error.
Isn't it only a yellow IF there is a legitimate attempt to play the ball, and therefore I ask, where was the attempt to play the ball by Christian?

That's for when the foul challenge is inside the area, to prevent the double jeopardy punishment...

Quite a few of the players at Walsall were clearly not fit, Lee Swabey wasn't either, or is it usual for him not to keep up with play. Sure there are more than a few who are not match fit yet?

Officials need a pre-season the same as players.  A lot of people forget that.  You can do as much cardio phyzz as you want, you still need match fitness to compliment it.   ;)

Is anyone aware of any issues with WGS please?
I have been queued every time I've tried to access it today.
Just tried now thinking it may have quieted down a bit but am 3476th in the queue so I'm giving up til tomorrow

Just tried it:
"You are now in queue
You are in queue for Whole Game System. When it is your turn, you will have 30 minutes to enter the website.
Number of users in queue ahead of you: 1648
Your estimated wait time is: 29 minutes"

You are not alone methinks...

I remember when i first starting watching football and hearing the older members of the crowd complaining if the fouled player got up and took the penalty.  They didn't believe that it should have been a penalty if the recipient of the foul tackle was fit enough to take it... ;D
