General Discussion / Re: PSG v Istanbul
« on: Wed 09 Dec 2020 10:30 »
Are UEFA potentially setting a dangerous precedent here?

Surely all the officials are miked up? Would not the referee and the VAR officials have heard what the FO said over the comms or can an official switch the comms off? It seems that the players and club officials have acted together having heard in their view a racist comment from the 4th official. They have in their view showed support for the person abused and I applaud that. However have the players and team officials acted as judge and jury in this matter by walking off?

There cannot possibly have been time for UEFA to organise a thorough investigation since last night but the game is been replaye/finished today thus appearing to back the actions of walking off and by association finding the 4th official did make racist comments.

For those more in the know Edy/BMB what happens if the 4th official is subsequently cleared are the players actions thus then potentially deemed wrong and that they caused the game to be abandoned? This could potentially be a right old mess to clear up.

MO, UEFA should avoid appointing Pawson to Omonoia - PAOK.

Pawson was the referee of last year's CL match Ajax - PAOK. He awarded 3 penalties to Ajax and Paok fans were furious.

Now PAOK has a crucial match in Cyprus. IMO, the appointment is wrong.

Strukan is a good referee and UEFA seems to push him. He was promoted to UEFA 2nd on June 2019 and now already with a 2nd EL appointment.

The calls were all correct so why should he be penalised by not being given a game because one of the teams don't like the fact he didn't let them get away with crap in a prior game?   Might serve as a reminder to them they are meant to be kicking the ball not other players! ;)

Your posts need a warning on. Nearly spat my tea out all over my desk lol. Great post as always BMB   ;D ;D ;D

Do you think Pawson's penalty decisions in the Ajax - PAOK match were correct?

I assume the referee observer must have otherwise I doubt that UEFA would appoint him to the game

Omonia vs PAOK

Is there any history here? Perhaps Edy would know?

65
Yes was a poor decision followed by bas you say some very inconsistent decisions, That's two poor performances from referees in England's last  Nations League games. Here's hoping the Portuguese referee is better!!

Good to see female officials been used and if Gibraltar win they'll be promoted to the C division next time I believe. So a huge game in their short history

While Dallas is in London, I notice Stephen Lodge is up in Glasgow.  I'd forgotten he was still an Observer - it seems ages since he was refereeing although it's only about 20 years I suppose.  Wasn't he one of the former refs used in the 6 a-side competitions after he retired from the PL?

He was indeed a ref for the Masters Tournament having retired in 2001.

Interesting to see a number of non-SG1 assistants on matches, with Kane, Mainwaring and Wood making their PL debuts if I’m not mistaken!

... and Wild at Burnley and Greenhalgh at Man City.

There's only 27 assistant refs (if the list I have just googled is correct) so with 10 games that's 30 required as they want 10 assistant video refs too. That meant a shortage as SG assistants won't have done VAR duties so they've got PL lines instead.

Common sense appointment really as it wouldn't be the same without fans and family. Though Wembley is plenty big enough for all involved family to be there socially distant.

As the Chair of a League below those that have been told they are null and void. We have been given the choice to expunge or do average points. No consultation though beforehand by our County FA

I can't see how this will avoid legal issues and or challenges

For example Jersey Bulls 30 points clear in their League mathematically can be caught but highly unlikely. I think there will be legal action at all levels.

All ready threatening legal action according to this

General Discussion / Re: Coronavirus latest
« on: Fri 13 Mar 2020 12:28 »
Postponing the season isn't an option.  We are a long way behind Italy and they are still at their peak of infections, realistically the postponement would be for two months and even if the Euros are postponed that would still take us into  July when the new season starts.  Plus we now have Arteta infected, which almost certainly means at least some of his players are infected.  Best case scenario is the season is finished behind closed doors, more likely (and really, really bad for Liverpool) is it will be abandoned.

I think the EPL emergency meeting today will postpone all this weekends matches and possibly clear the next 14-21 days. If the EPL does this, I feel that the Championship, National League and Steps 3-5 will also have to follow this, as the Government and FA will want a unified approach.

I also think that the FA quarter-finals next weekend will have to be postponed.

And with UEFA meeting on Tuesday, then they are going to have to suspend the CL and EL while the counties are in lock down.

The FA is going to have to extend the season for the step 3-5 past end of April - which is there deadline to organise the playoffs.

No unified response from the FA decision to be taken by individual leagues below EFL as we're autonomous organisations!!!

I chair a Junior League and we have to decide which is hard given no schools shut and current advice from the Chief Medical Officer.

I know some that are continuing, some giving clubs the option of whether to play.

My committee work so we make a decision by 9 tonight. Rock and hard place spring to mind

I have tried to fix the quote thingamajigga - hope I got it right! bmb

Haven't seen Rebecca on any National League games for a while. Is she injured?
