All appointments are posted on the designated Euro 2020 board. It can be found here: https://ratetheref.createaforum.com/2020-uefa-euro/

Sorry. Didn't see the new topic on the first page. Couldn't find anything under international appointments.

International Appointments / Re: international friendlies?
« on: Fri 04 Jun 2021 09:53 »
Not sure who was refereeing France v Wales but the early red card for Williams of Wales for handball, apparently following a VAR check, seemed extremely harsh. Handball? Possibly, but only possibly, according to current interpretation. Goal bound? No. And that in a friendly match.

Haven't seen it, but there is no VAR in friendlies.

Sorry to say, but before the Euros there are in some matches.

Poland - Russia, France - Wales and Netherlands - Georgia are the games to be set up with VAR.

Here is a link which shows the whole incident.

General Discussion / Re: Mason to retire after this season
« on: Tue 18 May 2021 07:55 »
Are East and Probert still actively involved in refereeing ? If not, I'm not sure if they are qualified. See 9.2 in the VAR handbook.

Mr Holland's linesmen were Konstantin Žečević and Arthur (or Antoine) Blavier of Belgium.

Thank you.

I do not have any idea about the gentleman on the left, but the tall man on the right looks like Konstantin Zekovic of Yugoslavia, though my spelling may not be 100% accurate!

Thank you JCFC. That's definately Konstantin Zecevic.

That's 'definately' as in Line of Duty? I'll get my coat. I agree Zecevic who refereed at the World Cup finals in 1966 and had to be escorted off the pitch by police at the end of the West Germany v Argentina match.

The last photo is from the coin toss from that match. Didn't find any photos from the infamous incident.

I've also got these photos of the referees from the Spain vs Soviet Union match.

Arthur Holland also refereed the Euro 1964 final Spain vs Soviet Union.

I have not managed to identify his assistants in this match, but I have found this clip

https://www.tokyvideo.com/video/spain-vs-soviet-union-full-match-euro-1964-final

The assistants are not named by the reporter at the start of the match. Some of you might know them if they are English.

General Discussion / Re: Bobby Madley
« on: Sun 02 May 2021 08:59 »
I for one sincerely hope the F A don’t fall for this and bend any rules to get him back on the PL. He was vastly overrated in the first place and came across as arrogant, which I suspect may have had some bearing on the offence which saw him banned. He turned his back on this country to set up home with his Norwegian girlfriend and try his luck in that country, only to return here to try and re- establish  his career.
There are plenty of other refs, hard grafters, who deserve a chance of promotion if good enough. Madley should be given no favours or special treatment and only promoted on merit. From Barneys report that would seem a long way off. What would really p*** me off would be for the F A to fast track him to the PL and then offer him his FIFA place again at the detriment of some other more deserving referee.

I certainly agree that he should not be fast tracked unless of course his performances merit a meteoric rise. That would be very unfair on others who have been developing in his absence.

I do think it is unfair to say that he turned his back on his country. Whether we agree or disagree with his sacking he was left, very much overnight, without a career. I don't think one can blame him for following an opportunity that could have put him on a path to reach top level refereeing in Norway and I can certainly understand why he would want to have a change of scenery given the very public nature of his dismissal (not to mention his partner being Norwegian).

These are all very fair points I think. I suspect there are quite a few others in front of him in the queue for SG1 and FIFA status. Is it known why he did not pursue his Norwegian path and came back to the UK ?

Yes, it is. He was open about it when he left us here in Oslo. But I think I'll leave it with that. There are definately not any exciting secrets there.
