Huge huge game for Will Finnie at Fratton Park in front of the Sky cameras at the top of League One. Very pleased for him with this appointment, I think he's deserving of a high profile game at this level and stage of the season - always been very impressed when I've seen him in the past.

Mr.Chilowicz
Posh v Pompey.

Ill be very surprised if Mr.Chilowicz won't be SG2 or above next year.

Certainly had that air about him, like Mr Gillet, that a quick introduction to the EFL required before moving on to bigger things.

Great fitness, man management and communication helping an exciting game at London Road, where Pompey showed that little bit of class to win the game.

If I was making one comment, Mr Chilowicz was very keen to explain his decisions and occasionally it was pretty obvious and players and crowd just wanted to get on with the game.

Maybe it's just the change in style, but at times it appeared that even after restarting play he was running alongside players having a discussion and didn't look to be 100% concentrating on play.

As said, very minor comment

Spot on - he was fantastic. Very quick on the scene to a handful of flash points in the game between the players which meant they were easily diffused. It was refreshing to see a game managed as well at this level by a non-SG2 (for now!)

Interesting to see Ollie Yates given both games between Pompey and Blackpool this season - first time I think we've had the same ref on both fixtures for the campaign. 8 YCs and a red at Fratton...

I was feeling a little indifferent with Ben Toner at Fratton Park - seemed to single handedly turn a competitive game into one that could've spilled over due to the volume of YCs issued. Lots of little - in my view, needless fouls given both ways before a really positive advantage played for Saydee to score the winner.

Eventful evening for Sam Purkiss and team at Stadium MK. Two red cards, including a straight red for dissent for Dean Lewington. There was also a very close goal line decision for an MK goal, appears to be over the line on replays but wasn’t given by Daniel D’Urso. MK were outraged, the AR would have had an unblocked view but it was a case of millimetres I would think.

Quite the season for red cards for Purkiss so far

A mix of SG2, experience and ERDP for some of the crunch games in League One

Overall disappointed with Sam Allison at Fratton Park last night. I appreciate it was what looked like a last minute switch around but he never seemed to have a hold on the game at all. Correct penalty call at the end of the first half - other than that, pretty much every corner/GK/throw was guessed and decisions seemed to take a while. I highly doubt the Cambridge goal was over the line albeit that's not really his shout to make.
Yes, they're small things in the context of the outcome of the game (thankfully if you're a Pompey fan!) - but he is nowhere near the quality nor has the conviction that SG1 demands of a referee. Call it fast-track, call it whatever...he has the talent, pace and positioning of a standard NL official. This has been the case every time I've seen him live.

Backhouse and team watch out….

David Richardson went off injured (hamstring injury) during the Sunderland U21s game on Monday night.

Ceri Williams went off injured (some sort of arm/shoulder/collar bone injury) tonight during the Sunderland Ladies cup match.

Not much luck for officials of Sunderland games this week - speedy recovery to all!

Wasn’t there a run of games last season (IIRC) that Portsmouth home games attracted a lot of injuries to officials?

One of the assistants pulled up in the first half of Portsmouth Cheltenham back in August - he was replaced by 4O Stephen Brown who then also couldn't continue, which was followed by an announcement to the crowd and a local league ref ran the South Stand line for the remainder of the game!

The very next weekend, after sending both Joe Rafferty and Jake Forster-Caskey off in the Stevenage Pompey game, Simon Mather himself pulled up and was replaced by Stephen Finch.

Very bizarre little run!

Any idea who Adam Herczeg's replacement is for Oxford Portsmouth?

Breakspear kicking 2024 off with two red cards this afternoon. That high boot looked nasty.
Despite the usual ref berating from Steve Evans I thought Breakspear had a really good game. A stickler for restarts being taken from the right place, hot on the Pompey timewasting, didn't give a penalty for a block on Sean Raggett as no movement towards the ball to block and obviously correct call to send Thompson for the high boot.

Really disappointed with how Evans spoke about him post-match 'well that's Breakspear for you etc' - comments I hope he's fined for and reminded of the example it sets. The only thing I agree with him on was the failure to give Pack a SYC, other than that a really solid game that he had control of throughout.

General Discussion / Re: P Howard - Portsmouth v Bolton
« on: Tue 12 Dec 2023 14:55 »
Fantastic advantage from Paul Howard after a foul on Yengi by Santos in the build up to the second which Yengi ended up scoring. Bar a couple of 50/50s between those two that I think he got the wrong way round and vice versa, he had a good night

Good night for Scott Oldham at Burton last night, high foul threshold (& consistent with it) and was keen to let a physical game flow. Easy spot for the pen and clear SBO for Steve Seddon in the 2nd half. Safe pair of hands

Very disappointed with Ollie Yates and his team at Fratton yesterday. Second Blackpool goal clearly offside - Mousinho told by AR1 that Beesley WAS offside but didn't impact play. Unfortunately, Beesley was the one who scored the goal so can't see how that can stand.

Clear pen missed on Kamara too. Pompey fully at fault for their own abysmal showing but not helped at all by incorrect calls.

Second Pompey appointment in as many months for Will Finnie, always been impressed when I've seen him

When was the last time we've seen such a meteoric rise such as Barrott's? National League 4 seasons ago, just 4 SG2 games before this season and as others have said more PL appointments than many other Select Group long termers so far.
