Busy weekend for Manchester based Kavanagh. Ref for the high profile Man City v Liverpool game then a trip to Stockley Park to be VAR for the very high profile Everton v Man Utd following their recent points punishment.

Great experience for those appointed to the Newcastle game as the match is being played at St. James Park and so far 25,000 tickets have been sold.

My first game was in December 1976 when Newcastle played Ipswich. I say game but it only lasted 45 minutes as at half time the referee Keith Styles from Barnsley came on the PA system to announce he was abandoning the game due to a frozen pitch!

I did see a comment a while back that Mr Rosetti was from Turin. I’m not sure what was possibly being insinuated by that.

Michael Oliver has Wolves v Liverpool on Thursday followed by Burnley v Norwich on Saturday. The players wouldn’t be expected to do that so why are referees?

6
Absolutely bonkers that Andre has 2 VAR games on Saturday and then has to travel up to Sheffield and switch back on again for a game on Sunday. It just shows how desperately short of numbers they are.

I've been out of the system for a while. In terms of marks, does the correct application of law in sending off the defender outweigh the incorrect decision to award the penalty in the first place?

I think it should read “10 should have been overturned and 6 were”. This will reconcile to the 4 that weren’t.

re Ivanhoe - I don't think it's the only one with 2 possible outcomes. Take the famous beachball incident at Sunderland a few years ago. Now if the ball hits the beachball in the penalty area it is an uncontested drop ball to the goalkeeper, if contact with the beachball is outside the penalty area then it is an uncontested drop ball to the attacking side!

Anthony Taylor and Gary Beswick on Liverpool v Arsenal at 5.30pm on Saturday, followed by VAR duties at Stockley Park on Sunday and presumably travel back up north on Sunday night/Monday. I fear burnout from all the travelling that they are going to have to do.

The new law change is bizarre. The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves. If an attacker challenges for the ball before it is in play it is retaken, presumably that split second prior to kicking it. Am I missing something? Obviously I don’t have the education of a School housemaster who approved such wording!

Presumably if the EFL think they need to have an Elite referee on the Semi Final then Michael Oliver muse be the favourite for the Final?
