I know I've read on here before about the postcode rule being abolished years ago.
There is your answer
Most people on here are well aware the rule exists, what is argued is whether the rule is sensible. My opinion is, it is not, for the simple reason that it could put a referee under unnecessary scrutiny in the event of a controversial event. Likewise, just as Madley was strangely switched, in midweek, from one relegation battle to another, because of his allegiance to Huddersfield. This weekend we have the situation where a self confessed Sheffield Wednesday fan, will be in control of a relegation affected game at Leeds. Where is the sense in possibly leaving a referees integrity open for question?

I very rarely comment on the performance of officials at my own club’s games. However, I thought Attwell was poor for both teams, who each had a stonewall penalty denied, there were also two very questionable disallowed ‘goals’ in which he took an age to indicate his decision. He issued two very early cautions and subsequently failed to maintain the same standards. His demeanour, throughout, gave the impression that the game was below him and his only success was to confuse and irritate both sets of players, fans and coaching staff. A bad day at the office

Quite an odd appointment for Ed Duckworth, he will be travelling from Preston to Cardiff to hold up the boards in the Cardiff v Preston game. Maybe, like his cricketing sister, he spends his spare time at Ewood Park and that’s the reason which allows it?
His day job meant he travels everywhere.
He was also on board-holding duties at the Cardiff v Leeds game on January 13. While his day job takes him around the country, as an employee of the FA that country is surely England rather than Wales!

Regardless of his day job, he is (was) a resident of Preston and is covering a Preston game.

You have to love(!) the way the players just stood there watching and did absolutely nothing to help. They should all also be suspended for a game or 2...
Perhaps the idiotic "jobsworth" action of David Spain some years ago contributed to their inaction.
Exactly my thoughts

players buying penalties with minimal contact
So then minimal contact should not be a penalty? At what point along the scale does something reach the criteria for an offence occurring? (I guess I’m asking what word comes next after minimal?) Is not minimal contact….contact? Is not a soft foul….a foul?
Making contact is not in itself an offence, tripping is one offence for which a direct free kick/penalty is awarded. In my opinion there was no trip but Fernandes felt a slight touch and decided to go down. As another poster has said, this type of award just encourages players to perpetuate this cancer which has crept into the game

Absolutely ludicrous clash of shirts for a TV audience. From distance black and red stripes look identical to me. Only colour of shorts differentiate the players. A real own goal by TV production company, FA or both.
I agree to an extent but, if I was a fan inside the stadium, I would want my team to be in their own colour’s wherever possible

Too true Claretman. I do not criticise officials, I didn't when I played at semi-pro level and I certainly don't now. I played over 500 games at semi-pro level and also officiated at a similar level when I stopped playing and I am at a total loss as to where the game is now going. IN three years IFAB madee over 178 changes to the Laws of the Game and their interpretation, mainly to accommodate the introduction of VAR, which only applies to the elite level of football. This was upp to 3 years ago, I have not even bothered about what changes have been made since because it is not doing anything to improve the game or the fans' enjoyment of it.
If my comment is disgraceful, then it is my opinion and I shall not withdraw it. The game is being ruined by gimmicks. The people I feel very sorry for are the officials who are crucified every week for trying to do a job which they carried out very well until they reached SG1 level.
I agree 100% and also with your original post which, IMO, was unjustly deleted, for the reason outlined earlier by claretman

"So much easier when the ball had to move its full circumference before it was in play at a corner kick, free kick or penalty kick"
But how many times did we allow retakes where the ball did not roll 27 inches before being touched?
The point I was making is. Then there was discernible movement and even if the ball did move a few inches short, everyone considered the ball to be in play. IMO a much better scenario
But that is what the Law has been changed to!
The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves
With all respect, I am fully aware of the current Law. If you follow the thread you will see that IMO the old definition, of when the ball was in play, was more acceptable to referees, players and spectators
