General Discussion / Re: Dermot, Ref Watch
« on: Mon 06 Mar 2023 14:01 »
I like Dermot, he comes across as a decent fella, and I’ve heard from those who know him that he’s a funny guy, too. Having said that, he doesn’t half come out with some utter goulash sometimes! The Fernandes slap, shove, push, call it what you want, on the AR is bang out of order. For Dermot to say that it’s best just to let it go because the AR put his hands on Fernandes first is some of the biggest nonsense I’ve ever heard. The AR is just trying to stop Fernandes getting at the Liverpool player, he’s actually trying to help him.
I’m really struggling to see the logic behind the stance that Dermot is taking, and if I’m honest, with this, and a few other things he’s come out with in recent weeks, it’s becoming difficult to take him seriously which is a real shame
I see where Dermot was coming from , but agree with you more Craven.
Be interesting if it is being 'looked at' by the authorities..........
Wasn't it nice that there was a weekend with no major referee disasters though?

General Discussion / Re: Stuart Attwell (VAR: Darren England)

https://twitter.com/btsportfootball/status/1610030159574487040?t=S6PJrNSdj93Iq_3P0L_EKg&s=19

Just thought I'd attach this nonsense. Attwell was excellent and I'd even say it was the best refereeing performance since the EPL returned. Faultless except the VAR interventions which weren't his fault

Nonsense indeed. When Klopp can keep a civil tongue in his head when addressing referees and particularly ARs ( we haven't forgotten the angry outburst of temper some weeks ago ) then Match Officials might talk to him. Until that level of courtesy is reached ( and it's by no means solely the conduct of Klopp but other managers/coaches as well ) then I certainly wouldn't engage with him. Microwaves, when programmed, do what you instruct them too; I'm afraid with Match Officials it doesn't work like that. Let's hope the lesson is soon learned.
Klopp talking rubbish again.............the officials had a great game

Football League - L1 & L2 / Re: Fri 5th AUG 2022
« on: Sun 07 Aug 2022 17:16 »
So after two rounds of league fixtures and the Carabao Cup, I make it no appointments yet, from the NL, for:

Sam Allison
Declan Bourne
Sunny Gill
Neil Hair
Darren Handley
Paul Howard
Rebecca Welch

Anyone else?

Obviously, there could be a multitude of reasons why we haven't seen them yet, although we know why in Ms Welch's case.
Sam Allison injured

General Discussion / Re: P TIERNEY - Man U v Brighton
« on: Sun 07 Aug 2022 15:20 »
It was a clear penalty, no idea how they can say no
It's a mystery that one

I am unsure about Tierney's appointment, considering the reviews he has had the last 6 months or so. I do not think he is as bad as some are suggesting but I think he needs a quiet end of the season and refresh over the summer. I'm also not sure about him refereeing such a big game less than 48 hours before FA Cup final.

Not sure about Coote on Burnley V Villa either.

Moss, Atkinson and Dean with some good midweek games, ahead of their upcoming retirements.

Not a great idea to have Tierney on that just before a cup final. Runout at the King Power for the on field team at the fa cup final.

I think Paul Tierney is a good ref........far worse ones around...

Edited to fix quote thingamajigga, bmb

Genuinely interested to know why that’s the case. As with 12 yellows and a red something must’ve gone wrong.
I've not seen the action, but would presume that with 12 yellows and a red the thing that has gone wrong is player behaviour!!!

From the brief highlights, he seemed to get all three penalty calls wrong.

I recall his "mishandling" of last season's National League Play-off Final at Ashton Gate when Torquay were on the wrong end of some poor decisions allowing Hartlepool to progress back into the League.
Oh that ref , I was at that Final. Torquay has a perfectly good goal disallowed.............shocking

Liverpool have requested postponement of the tie to the EFL today.

The Football League are investigating their request.

Really don't get this.  If it is postponed it will have to be played in the next 4 weeks and they just won't have bandwidth to do it.  They had similar with the World Club Championship and played a reserve / youth team. struggling to see why they don't do the same here.

It's ridiculous......didn't Orient get kicked out for not fielding a team against Spurs!!

Liverpool should get the boot too!!!!!

Non-League / Re: National League Premier - 2020/21
« on: Sun 20 Jun 2021 20:06 »
I genuinely thought the referee was dreadful, he clearly played a deciding role in this match and that isn't his job , the two disallowed goals would not have been free kicks anywhere else on the field based on how he refereed the rest of the match , it should have been 10 v 10 with the foul on Moxy as clear a red you will ever see and he then bottled the second yellow for the Torquay player . His signals were unfathomable for most of the match and his strutting body language looked lazy . If this guy is in the efl next season it would be a travesty.
I was at the game , admittedly I did spend some of it the bar (!) , but I thought the ref was poor.
The disallowed goal in the 8th minute was disgraceful.

How many times do we see a penalty given for the goalkeeper missing the ball and punching the attacker in the head?

I can’t remember any...

Certainly not in the way that this actually played out. Keeper was committed and it did not affect the header which the attacker got in.
It is an imposiibilty for a player to stop when he is in mid air as the keeper was.
I suppose that the next thing IFAB can bring in will be that a keeper is not allowed to punch a ball because it constitutes a danger to an opponent ----oh I forgot ------and it might hurt the ball.

It is interesting that the clamour for VAR comes about when it isn't there, however, the clamour to get rid of it is consistently mentioned when it is there!
Use VAR correctly and it's ok..............but they don't even follow their own 'rules'!

I don’t remember seeing a comment from Nemesis and Hendo when Mr Madley had a fine performance at Oxford in the semi finals and yet here they are today. It would almost seem like an agenda against this individual.

I felt some of the decisions were questionable, the early penalty decision with the challenge on the goalkeeper in slow motion is clear to see but in full speed I don’t think is as clear.

As for the penalty, I may be in a minority here but there is clearly a push albeit the attacker makes the most of it. The contact begins outside the area and the push ends inside the area, Sky said exactly this point. That therefore makes it a penalty kick.

Throughout the game it was very clear that Mr Madley commanded the respect of the players and smiled a lot with them. No cautions in 90 minutes and I just find it very sad that none of the people on here have ever had the pressure of such a game to deal with so we cannot possibly understand how that must feel to referee. It just seems like the same names every week cannot wait to jump on certain referees at any opportunity.

On reflection, I’d say a soft penalty to win the game but by no means incorrect and totally wrong to say it was outside as some have. As an observer I would be saying a well controlled game, a confident referee who moved well throughout, experience was clear to see to slow the game down when needed...but a referees life hinges on one or two big decisions. For me the first could be given on another day, the one that was is absolutely not incorrect. A push is a foul and it continued into the penalty area. I’m staggered to see how people can say that is such a bad decision. In my opinion that would never have been overturned by VAR which maybe says enough.

***Edited removed comment from original post***
(edited)if you think that was a penalty!!
You seem to be the only one who does............bad bit of observing that!
I thought he was poor throughout.......the players weren't respecting him.....in fact Newport were getting more and more frustrated with his odd decisions.......poor understanding of what a foul is or isn't etc

General Discussion / Re: Chris Kavanagh - Fulham v Newcastle
« on: Mon 24 May 2021 09:04 »
Kavanagh has gone off the boil the last few games.... wasn’t particularly impressed this afternoon either.

But now we focus on the dross in SG2 again for next season....

I would rather have the dross than VAR though.
I would have anything but VAR...........sick of it
i knew how bad it was going to be after the World Cup in Russia........a brilliant tournament spoilt by terrible officiating..
