General Discussion / Re: Retirement
« on: Sun 05 Jun 2022 00:28 »
A Haines?

Still going. Now the oldest referee on the list.

I think next season Andre Marriner will be the longest serving official. I hope it won't be his last season but I might need to start preparing bmb jr emotionally for that particular retirement!

Joint with Kevin Friend, I think, both joining the list in 2003/04

It will be Carl Boyeson. He joined the list in 2002/03.

What is the current thinking as to who will be promoted to the National List, Select Group 2 and Select Group 1?

I feel for Kevin as he has had some injury list these last few years, just as he was being seen as a very safe pair of NL hands - I wish him well in retirement

Also wish Sarge a well earned rest, possibly one in the Gavin Ward category who will be remembered (positively) most for his lining rather than his reffing.

I understand Sarginson is taking up a role within the PGMOL.

Select Group 2 / Re: Fri 11th – Wed 15th SEP 2021
« on: Mon 06 Sep 2021 19:36 »
West Bromwich Albion FC (First Team) v Derby County FC (First Team)
Football League Championship
Referee: Friend, Kevin
Assistant Referee: Eaton, Derek
Assistant Referee: Smith, Wade
Fourth Official: Finnie, Will

Second consecutive week that young Finnie is on board duties to a SG1 official… Just a coincidence?

General Discussion / Re: Promotion Interviews 2021
« on: Wed 09 Jun 2021 14:39 »
The referees being interviewed for promotion are the following:

Select Group 2 → Select Group 1
- John Brooks
- Jarred Gillett
- Tony Harrington
- Keith Stroud
- Michael Salisbury

National List → Select Group 2
- Thomas Bramall
- John Busby
- Martin Coy
- Darren Drysdale
- Craig Hicks
- Bobby Madley

Darren Drysdale has withdrawn from the interview process for promotion to Select Group 2 - according to Ref Support UK, citing his commitment to family and his role in the armed forces.

General Discussion / Re: Fitness test
« on: Wed 30 Dec 2020 23:31 »
I wonder what the restrictions will mean for those refs that haven’t been able to do their fitness test. Apparently the January test was the final one ..... Surely their seasons can’t be held back due to no fault of their own

9
At Level 2B, the referee fee is £75, the Assistant fee £45.  Expenses are 35p per mile

At Level 2A, the referee fee is £120, AR is £60 and 4th Official is £40.  Again, plus 35p per mile

When you consider that the officials are normally out of their houses for approximately 7 hours for one of these games, it's not a level to make you rich!

Thank you.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the fees / salaries at National List and Select Group (1 and 2) levels?

Just merely interested, but what are the match fees and expenses rate of Step 2 (Level 2B) match officials and above - Level 2A and National List?

And any ideas on the salary brackets of those operating within Select Group 2 and Select Group 1?

I am already aware that Select Group 1 officials receives annual bonuses as well etc

General Discussion / Re: Promotion 2020

Three refs have been promoted to SG2 but only two have been promoted to SG1. Does this mean that someone is coming off the SG2 list? The unconfirmed suggestion has been made that James Adcock will be stepping down through injury (a pity imo), which suggests that the three 'oldies' Duncan, Stroud and Woolmer may be carrying on. I await the definitive list with interest.

James Adcock has every intention on making a return.

Adcock passed his fitness test earlier today.

Congratulations to all - especially those that have been promoted again after just one season.

Interesting though, I thought Will Finnie had a much better season than Josh Smith...

General Discussion / Fitness test
« on: Sun 07 Jun 2020 18:07 »
I have been promoted to Level 4 and have the fitness test coming up in August

It is the Cooper Test- continuous run for 12 minutes and have to cover at least 2600 metres

I have not always been the fittest or fastest- especially in terms of endurance and mental toughness (brain always telling me to stop !), and I am about 4 stone heavier than I should be

I am aiming for the fitness test in August (June and July are cancelled because of corona)

Does anyone have any tips on training and preparing for the test itself? And anything else that would be useful

I am pretty anxious about not passing

Has anyone else been through a similar situation ?

Tia..
