Swarbrick is VAR on the League Two playoff final so logistically don't think he can do a final day game. Suspect a SG2 referee or even a left field appointment like Barrott will do the Palace v Forest game.

Suspect that may be the case as the final would likely not involve either of those teams. I think possibly Tallis and Ricardo (who has probably done more NL games than Kirk had last season) for the Semis.

I think generally games are being used more as trials these days whereas in the past promotion was generally a fait accompli once they'd had a trial game. I would say Lewis Smith is an EFL ref in all but name after this season. It all depends how many refs come off the list. A few there have been generally steady refs at NL level for a few years like Middleton and Tallis and others who are relatively new even at NL level.

The most likely dead rubbers in League Two on Saturday are being done by Allison who has already benefited from a Championship trial or Lewis / Boyeson who are not likely to be pushed higher up the food chain now. Never seen Duckworth but there are some poor officials in League Two so nice to see them trying to freshen it up a bit.

Sorry for this long piece 😂. Would love to hear others thoughts.

You would suggest Bond and Robinson are the most likely 2 for promotion next season. I think in the last few years, PGMOL has promoted less experienced candidates and its taken them well over a season to settle. I think then the 4 retirements last season has removed stability within the group and made them possibly the least experienced SG1 group I've ever seen. This in my opinion is a factor in the high profile errors made this year. Instilling Bond and Robinson, who've been around a while, is helping to build some experience within the group. They should take less time to settle, meaning regular appointments can be given quicker.

I wouldn't really say it is the newer PL officials who have been making the blunders on the field.

Always thought Daniel Middleton was one of the better ones at NL level. Surprised he hasn't had a chance earlier.

She's certainly one of the best in the lower leagues and thoroughly deserved her Championship opportunity a few weeks ago. Some of her male colleagues could certainly learn something from her.

Riley's an important observer?

VAR continues to be a chocolate fireguard in this country if things like the Fabinho foul are considered OK.

Out of interest have the likes of Reuben Ricardo and Farai Hallam who have regularly took charge of NL games over the last few months officially been promoted? Surprised not to see these names or Lewis Smith's

Welch was excellent at Stockport v Northampton on Saturday so not surprised.

Might have heard of the odd Winter but not heard of many of the others at first names

He could have a future as a TV pundit then!

They do have previous for promoting refs to SG1 after one season as a SG2. I can see Barrott being SG2 next season and then SG1 the year or two after.

Sunny Gill was generally very good at Stockport v Wimbledon. Alongside Sam Barrott the best ref at Edgeley Park this year
