The notable absentees are Riem Hussein (Germany) and Claudia Umpierrez (Uruguay). The latter has been the victim of some blatant misogny within CONMEBOL, a great shame IMHO.

Congrats to Rebecca, Cheryl, Natalie & Sian. Some "interesting" names in unexpected places after the recent Men's World Cup in Qatar. Too few female VARs (again) & no VARs from England.

Congrats to all involved, not just those selected for the final 2 games but all the officials. Doubt you'll see 2 better SFs than Eng v Can & NZ v Fra.

Ahead of the 2 SFs I reckon that Joy & Aimee are "head & shoulders" above the others - so it wouldn't surprise me if one gets the final & the other gets the 3rd place. Hollie & Sara have been very good but not outstanding. If one or both of the SFs "have issues" then Hollie & Sara are logical alternative candidates. WR may also have Maggie in mind. All in all, with 4 games to go, this tournament has been rewarding viewing. All 14 officials could well feature in RWC 2025 in England.

I suspect that Lee Jeffrey & Lauren Jenner have been disciplined for failing to take appropriate action in the England v SA pool match when there was a RC offence by SA which they both "missed" (as I have yet to see the whole game recording I'm guessing that one or both incorrectly determined that there were mitigating factors).
Whether one or both are back in the frame for SFs onwards ..... about the only thing that can be guaranteed is that there are several "red hot" officials all competing for the honor whether as R, AR or TMO. Each QF should see exemplary officiating.

The RLWC is being played with the variations practised in Australia & NZ for several seasons. Each team is allowed 1 "captain's challenge" per game - if unsuccessful the challenge is forfeited. If the challenge succeeds the team retains it. Not dissimilar to international cricket. Consequently there will be off-field (TV) officials each with specific responsibilities. If you watch NRL on Sky, they are what the commentators refer to as "the bunker".

I certainly don't know enough about Italian referees (lots of different theories depending on which forum/website you choose to access), but I do find it "surprising" that Italy's leading female referee - Maria Caputi - has been elevated to Serie A for 22-23 but is (a) not UEFA elite & therefore (b) not at EURO 22. After all the criticism of Rossetti for seemingly favouring Italian referees when it comes to UEFA appointments, her omission does surprise.
With 24 group matches & 13 referees, I do hope that each referee has 2 matches at least (unless there is something disastrous). I have a feeling that the hardest group match will be Netherlands v Portugal, with France v Italy and Germany v Spain close contenders, so I sense at least 2 QFs appointments will involve 2 out of the 3 referees involved.

At the top of the international rugby union refereeing pyramid, there are some very talented females who will undoubtedly feature more & more in men's games and whose presence (if not already) will become the norm. Their decision-making and positioning are "engrained" and listening to their conversations with TMOs and ARs undoubtedly confirm their accuracy and empathy with the game and the players. The RWC in NZ later this year will inspire players & officials alike, and then it will be England's turn to host in 2025.
It would be good to think that football will learn from rugby but those in charge of that sport (both internationally and within each country) seem unable to accept that change is good and have vested interests. The merest mention of being able to listen to football officials' conversations, both between themselves & with VAR, should be viewed positively (surely most officials would welcome this) but FIFA and its member confederations appear 100% opposed. World Rugby undoubtedly has room for improvement in its interactions with media but, in most of the major unions, the dialogue is proactive. Compare and contrast with FIFA/UEFA!
However, not all is lost as I expect the Women's Euros later this summer to feature some excellent officiating (& not just because the UK is well represented).
