Taking the game as a whole I thought John Brooks was excellent. Superb game for the neutral.

If a free kick was given for the incident that is being discussed outside the penalty area I doubt very much if there would be many who would disagree with it. I must admit that when I saw it replayed in slow motion I probably (and arguably incorrectly) would have given the penalty. Probably just as well I have retired from refereeing.

Look to me like a kick at an opponent rather than a challenge for the ball.
Excellent decision.

I question when a player who has already been yellow carded commits what appears to me to be another clear yellow card offence, and the referee appears to reach for another yellow card, but then, ( from what I could see) decides not to administer a second yellow card (and in consequence a red card) puzzles me. It would be be illuminating to be given an explanation why a second yellow and therefore a red was not given. An explanation no doubt we will not receive.

There was something of a mass confrontation at the final whistle from the Leicester players toward the referee. However, I have to say as a supporter of Leicester I thought that overall he had a very good game. I thought he looked very comfortable throughout. No issues with the cards. I do think however that some players are given far too much leeway about from where a throw in should be taken from. Some players received a card for “time wasting” but others who clearly were doing it did not.
However, that aside a very competent and solid performance.

Evidence if it was ever needed that VAR has killed modern top flight football as a spectator sport………and I have no interest in these competing teams whatsoever.

The first yellow card for the Leicester player was appalling for a premiership referee or for that matter a level 6. When he sees it again he should be embarrassed.

Of all the referees on the list he never gives me any confidence. The second half was probably better, but I just don’t think he is sufficiently consistent.

First time I had seen him in action. I think my general opinion was that he had a reasonable game. I thought there were some positives and negatives (isn’t there always). Well he was certainly fit, I thought his positioning was good, and I liked how he sensibly applied the advantage clause on several occasions in what were absolutely dreadful conditions.
Cards were pretty much nailed on so no complaints there.
At one free kick it was quickly taken when the ball was obviously moving. He quite properly had it taken properly. However, at another free kick the kick was taken when the ball was moving even faster than in the first example, however he had turned his back to the ball and allowed it to to betaken. Consequently, the Leicester fans saw this as irritating inconsistency rather than a really major game changing error.
I had my doubts about a few decisions in terms of foul detection, but the vast majority of decisions seemed pretty accurate to me.
He appears to have all the attributes to progress well.
A word also for the assistants who I thought performed well.

From what I saw, I thought it was a very competent performance.

This is a point that occurs to me every week. Some of these managers just can’t resist breaking the rules. Arteta is one of the biggest culprits. It seems that no one is really bothered. If that is the case they will go where they please with impunity.

All the officials were outstanding.

Brooks and Jones firmly establishing themselves as trusted pairs of hands.

You can only referee the game you have been given. I thought he was excellent.
I think he has really established himself as one of the Premier League’s top performers.
