Should have added when not playing each other of course, don't want to make it too easy

Could this be some sort of record ? Same match official has both Manchester clubs In quarter finals of FA cup in less than 24 hours

General Discussion / Re: VAR stands for......

Seriously, how did VAR Jon Moss conclude that a late handball in the penalty area by a Tottenham player in the tie v Southampton was not deliberate? Ticked all the boxes for deliberate handball. Dreadful, simply dreadful and made a complete mockery of the VAR system. Moss should hang his head in shame  ???
At Least Jon Dross is consistant. He's just as bad on the field as he is on VAR duties

Much is often said about the logic of referee appointments regarding frequency and distances travelled but how about the assistants is any thought ever given in that direction I wonder. An example ,this Saturday coming one of the assistants on the Brighton game, who I beleive comes from the north is also on the Brighton game again on the Tuesday and this time is at Bournemouth so presumably because of the times officials have to meet before games that will involve two overnight stops and around 8oo miles + in three days ?

but Moss has to be one of the poorest consistantly

Completely disagree. *coughs* Lee Mason *coughs*

Why would you completely disagree with the statement . because Mason is the worste why does that preclude Moss from being one of the worste

Having watched Moss on the field on many occassioins it beggars belief how he ever passes a fitness test. He has a running style that looks like a cross between Old Mother Riley and Renee of Allo Allo fame. It would appear that he is as slow at VAR as he is on the pitch taking the best part of four minutes to come to a conclusion, Is this what is called using Clear and Obvious as the benchmark. many other referees come in for a lot of critism but Moss has to be one of the poorest consistantly

Atkinson with Arsenal AGAIN!! 3 times in 8 matches!
Kavanagh with a really good game - Madley, Hooper Coote, Mason and Bankes really underused so far.
London Derby for Oliver!
Would you have rather seen him at a "lesser club" Like Newcastle ,Leicester or Sheffield given your comments in another thread. Inconsistant or what ?

General Discussion / Re: Kevin Friend Man Utd v Arsenal

Friend coming into thins game in form with some very good appointments this season. However I Watched the game and thought he was poor. When you’ve got our fifa referees wasted on the likes of Sheff Utd v Liverpool and Leicester and Newcastle then something isn’t right.
Felt sorry for him a bit by the end as massively out of his depth. Foul detection was poor epitomised when he gave a free kick in the first half for a foul by McTominay and then changed his mind. Yellow cards very inconsistent - lingard and particularly Xhaka lucky to survive being binned. Thought both assistants equally poor especially when giving free kicks, some very soft to non existent fouls being flagged for!
What a disgusting comment to post. I am sure the fans of Liverpool and Leicester. both top six teams not to mention Sheffield and Newcastle would not appreciate the disparaging slur. "The likes of " I agree with you in one sense "something isn't right" and I believe that to be you

No need for the harsh over the top comment from yourself. I am merely stating my opinion and my opinion on the appointments is well documented. Let me expand:

Take Anthony Taylor. He will yet maybe 5/6 of the top games a season: if 3 of them involve Liverpool and he does a team a max of 5 times a season then that leaves a couple of games over the season for other games.
No disrespect to Sheffield United or other “smaller clubs” but why can’t some of the so-called “lesser” referees take charge of this game; they rarely do a top club and very rarely have a big club in a live televised game.
It’s about fairness for the club’s and referees, and IMHO it isn’t fair if a referee gets to referee the top clubs 5/6 times and the lesser referees do the top clubs once or twice!

But then surely Craig Pawson doing Leicester V Newcastle would be an example of the approach you outline?

I can sort of understand what you are saying but if you don't want FIFA referees to officiate televised games such as Sheffield United V Liverpool and you think they are wasted when they get Leicester V Newcastle then what games should they be refereeing?
dont think my comments were either harsh or over the top and am sure were more moderate than those you would have deservedly got from fans of the clubs you belittled. How often do we read comments about the same refs at the same clubs all the time so think it only fair that top refs get shared around, by the way the game at Sheffield was a top game. Merely stating my opinion

what I want to know is will VAR reduce the cost of my TV license, or for the better off , their sky subscription. If VAR turns out to be such a success. which I very much doubt, Surely the BBC will not require the amount of overpaid pundits, how much does Lynaker get these days?, to second guess and gabble on when in actual fact we could see more actual action from the games. I honestly don't beleive the majority of fans or officials for that matter will say in twelve months time that VAR has improved the game we love to watch

It cannot be denied that Mark was a very good referee but just like many of the best footballers it doesn't automatically follow he would be a great coach or manager. How did he do in the middle east on that score, I genuinly don't know and am not being sarcastic. Has he any previous experience that would lead you to think he has the qualities required to head up and manage an organisation. When you look at how well a company or a team are managed rarely does it come down to just one person. Would he make a good number two or is he too much of a maverick ? It is one thing being a good critic and being able to highlight where the shortcomings are it is entirely different when you are charged with doing it . You only have to listen to Hacket spewing  his words of wisdom and saying just how much is wrong and compare that with what he actually did when in office.

That was my point, same assistant that tried his best to keep him [ the ref] out of trouble in his previous game.

Great idea for a thread

Darren Cann was the best I've ever seen in any competition, lost it a bit after he came off FIFA imo but still better than most. Also like Smart, Beswick, Bennett, Ledger (amazing hes never been FIFA) and Child.

Have never seen the brilliance others do in Sian Massey-Ellis, solid PL assistant but no more atm for me, lots of time to develop though.

Regarding Scott Ledger, I was looking at the list of officials who have done the FA Cup final and his name didn't seem to be on there - has his face not always 'fitted' for whatever reason?
I Agree with the comments regarding Darren Cann and also regarding Scott who has been very consistent over a number of seasons. I beleive a glaring ommission when previous contributors are nominating the best assistants has to be Adrian Holmes. He has made some very brave tight calls and his accuracy percentage is extremely high. He has also shown he is prepared to assist when it comes to other incidents besides off sides. He has had some critisism from pundits on occassions for being "only just right" but we all know how stupid some of them are. For me he is way better than some of our other asstistants including FIFA badge holders over the last couple of seasons. Interesting that the powers that be put out Holmes and Ledger with Paul Teirney on Saturday following the Manchester City Watford game, obviously they thought he would be well looked after !!

General Discussion / Re: L MASON - WBA v Forest
« on: Sun 17 Feb 2019 15:57 »
Well good news for mason is he has been demoted further into league 2 this weekend! 😉
Whilst not a great admirer of Lee Mason, I have to say that his appointment to next Saturday's game had been published prior to Tuesday's match at The Hawthorns; hardly a 'demotion' just PGMOL fulfilling their obligation to provide SG1 officials to undertake matches in the Championship and EFL, as they do each matchday.
Typical Pulis made no mention of the two very good penalty shouts . Sheffield should have been awarded at least one of them for blatant fouls in the box . especially when the attacker was wrestled to the floor. Boro were second best as was Pulis though the referee was definately not the job
