Non-League / Re: Non-League Playoffs - 2022/23
« on: Mon 01 May 2023 14:39 »
I thought Lewis Smith did well on Saturday, when I watched Argyle vs Burton, so am also a little surprised that he is being used in the Eliminator Games!

2
Great appointment for Lewis Smith at Plymouth! Good chance promotion and potentially the L1 title could be decided that game! Clearly highly rated, will look forward to seeing him!

3
Very good appointment for Drysdale with an all-championship tie. Good appointments for Coy and Barrott with Championship vs L1 ties. Big opportunity for Speedie on Millwall Boreham Wood.

Tad surprised that all four officials at Argyle vs Shrewsbury are SG2. Bit of an odd decision personally. I thought Sunderland vs Peterborough might of warranted SG2 officials, but apparently not. Tim Robinson officiates Luton vs Man Utd on Tuesday/Wednesday, and then down to Plymouth for the weekend

Any news on Round 2 appointments? Although I suspect with the early turn arounds they may come out a little later then usual.

A newbie to Home Park in the mould of Tom Nield, can't say I know a lot about him. Seemed to of had more L1 games then L2, which could be a good indication. Did wonder if it would go to a more experienced National List official, because it is likely to have a big bearing on who possibly get's automatics come May.

Oh dear... Kettle down at Plymouth.
Kettle was fine. One ridicolous decision however, he slipped over, the ball hit him and changed sides but gave the FK to the side who had won the ball rather than Argyle who had lost it.

Graham Coughlan most certainly wasn't a fan on Saturday either in the Bristol Rovers Argyle FA Cup tie. 2 penalties given, both argubly soft (in particular the 2nd one), and a Red Card given also. Missed a stonewaller in the 2nd half also. Inconsistent.

Huxtable is the first official to bridge the metre gap between our new dugouts. That could get quite tasty.

2nd appointment of Rob Lewis to an Argyle game in 3 weeks. Officials need to be spread around a little more I think.

General Discussion / Re: Craig Hicks...........

Speaking of Craig Hicks, I wonder how he managed to miss this blatant handball last night at Plymouth?

One of the poorest decisions I have seen in a while tbh. His case of mistaken identity wasn't great either which has now resulted in a player recieving his 5th yellow, for a foul he didn't commit.

An experienced pair - Darren Drysdale and Charles Breakspear - for the West Country derby and the top of L2 clash between Forest Green and Crewe. Sensible appointing in my view. Ditto Kevin Johnson at the bottom of L2 at Stevenage.
Am somewhat surprised it hasn't gone to a SG2 official but Mr Drysdale is probably the next best thing.

We seem to be getting a rash of newbies at Doncaster Rovers games. David Rock (whom I've seen in the National League before) was less than impressive on Saturday. Hoping for better from Messrs. Smith (tonight) and Doughty (Saturday).
We had a lot of newbies at Home Park earlier this season. Josh Smith was far from the pick of the bunch but I am pleased to see an increase in positive/encouraging reports.

Breakspear has had his red card out inside 32 minutes at Port Vale today.....
He's now shown 7 red cards this season and we're only in October.

It's unfathomable how Breakspear is producing so many reds. Surely it simply cannot be that he is unlucky or coincidental that the games he officiates ends up with the paying customer having to watch a game that's not 11 a side.

The only official in the past who comes close to this is a certain bloke called Parker from Preston.
Mr Breakspear issues red cards more then any other official, yes, but more often then not they have been correct calls. I can't recall one of his red cards this season to of been overturned on appeal, that suggests he is doing something right. That tends to evidence the fact he is unlucky.

Mr Woolmer graces Home Park this weekend, mustn't of been down here for a long time. Championship linesman also, although Pottage is a regular nowadays. It is likely to be a grudge match after last season's "goal" but I am not sure the SG2 officials are needed, wasn't expecting them until the Derby in a few weeks.
