In what day on gods green earth is that a penalty? Miley knows absolutely nothing about it.

Thank god it was saved.

Bromley FC (First Team) v Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Farmer, Aaron
Assistant Referee: Read, Greg
Assistant Referee: D'Urso, Daniel
Fourth Official: Hickman, Andrew

2nd time seeing Aaron, and the 2nd time I thought he had a good game. Once again, there wasn’t a lot to do but dealt with handbags pretty well by letting the players get on with it and then calling over the culprits. He cautioned Bromley manager Andy Woodman after the handbags, but I’m not entirely sure what he did. 7 mins added on second half was the fair amount and that helped Crewe go on to find a well-deserved equaliser.

Port Vale, Cheltenham and Barrow’s games have all been called off.

I get to see Elliot Bell for the first time when Crewe are at home, and Peter Wright picks up the rearranged game against Barnet, meaning Harry Wager doesn’t keep it.

Notts County F.C. (First Team) v Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team)      Live on SkySports+
Football League 2

Assistant Referee: McKittrick, Harley
Fourth Official: Young, Alan

A very promising performance today. There wasn’t a lot to really do, but dished out the 4 yellows correctly. I’d imagine Isaac will be happy with today’s work, unlike Crewe where the Notts County keeper didn’t even make a save!

A solid 8/10 for me. Very well done Isaac and team.

Gary Beswick has replaced James Mainwaring on Fulham v Brighton
Been a long time since he had the yellow flag

I went back into the archives, the last time he was AR2 at all was in the 2022 World Cup Final between Croatia and Brazil when he filled in for Simon Bennett. I haven't found one since then in the Prem or European Football.

29th December 2023: he was a replacement and was AR2 to Graham Scott in the championship, West Brom v Leeds.

Crewe with two of the inexperienced pick of the bunch with Isaac Searle and Aaron Farmer for some big games.

David Webb with double league two!

Not sure whether Seb Stockbridge has been back to Crewe Alex since the key game v Wrexham a couple of years ago, but anyway, I'm hoping to see a good performance from him (and a different result) on Saturday.

We saw him on 16th August 2025, at home to Crawley. A below par performance that day

4622 to be precise, which included me having hotfooted it from home after watching the disaster which was Crystal Palace relinquishing the FA Cup at the first hurdle and at little ol' Macclesfield as well. It's going to take a long time for the fans of the Palace to live that one down.

Like Tim Robinson at Macclesfield, I thought Charles Breakspear at Crewe performed well. He showed all his experience, only produced yellow cards when he had to (2 or 3 I believe) and was receptive to possible head injuries, which was good. Quite a bit of whistle in both halves, but this I believe reflected the game which was uninspired at best. And as the Palace found out earlier, if you don't stick goals away against so-called lesser opponents (Harrogate are next to bottom in L2), then you can hardly be surprised if the outcome is not as you expected. Not a good day for me!

Only criticism I have is the placing of the free kick that eventually lead to Harrogate’s equaliser. The ball was at least 10-15 yards ahead from where it should’ve been.

But overall Charles was ok in a dull game.

Did I read right Crewe had over 24000 there?

Around 4600 was the attendance

4 mins added? I’ve been watching for 15 mins and there’s been more than 4 mins worth of stoppages!

Seb Stockbridge, Declan Bourne and their teams get the weekend off, i’m sure others will follow.

Hopefully this cold patch passes quickly before players and officials get too rusty! It’ll be at least 16 days between games for Colchester if our next planned game goes ahead in Bristol next Saturday.

Weather in Crewe atm is light rain. We had snow last night (for about 3 hours) but that cleared pretty quickly with heavy rain overnight. Hopefully it’s on….

Crewe game is ON!

Quarter Finals

The refereeing teams appointed to all 4 games have been changed following a complaint from the Moroccan and Nigerian FA. According to reports, Omar Artan (Somalia) has been removed from the competition for wearing non-Puma boots during a group stage match.

Artan was initially scheduled as referee for Algeria-Nigeria, while Amin Omar (Egypt) was removed from Cameroon-Morocco as the host nation do not want an Egyptian in charge of their matches.

Is wearing Puma boots seriously that necessary? That seems harsh to have a referee removed for that reason. I mean if it was a strict guideline the officials had to follow then there’s some basis for it but then you’re potentially removing a top referee from the latter stages of a tournament. Feels harsh to me. Do we have similar rules in the premier league?

I don’t like the second part. Is there something broader than football to suggest why Morocco don’t want an Egyptian in charge of their matches? Or is it a view that Egypt are a big threat in the competition? Ridiculous whatever the answer is.

Don’t think it’s similar in the prem as for example Peter Bankes wears Nike boots with the puma kit

General Discussion / Re: Tom Kirk - Everton v Wolves
« on: Thu 08 Jan 2026 16:57 »
Some people on social media are disgusting. I am appalled and disgusted by some of the things I’ve read on X (Twitter). I’d like to see how many of them could pick up a whistle and officiate a top flight match in front of 52,000 people.

What's most disappointing and I'm generally shocked by, is the fact that Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham (who it would seem is an Everton fan) has joined the pile on!

Unbelievable.

He hasn't been abusive obviously, but he's been heavily critical. Incredibly irresponsible from someone of his stature!

If he’s doing it then everyone else will think it’s acceptable!

And this is why refs lower down the pyramid have no hope. The abuse at the top level is going to carry on going down the levels
