International Appointments / Re: International friendlies

The referee in the England vs. Uruguay.game was atrocious. The tackle on Phil Foden was a straight red every day of the week. He showed two yellows to a Uruguay player but didn"t give him a red. FIFA should remove him from their.list.

My top three atrocious refereeing displays:

Mick Russell. The infamous Donny v Pompey Championship game in 2012 (on YouTube).
Jim Devine (better known as an AR) Donny v Yeovil, 1999, National League.
Jim Parker. Every time I saw him he produced at least one red card.

General Discussion / FA Cup Rule 95
« on: Wed 07 Jan 2026 16:11 »
I have just been advised that the above rule, introduced this season, allows a player to appear for two different clubs in the competition. I haven't been able to find the rule, but I wondered if anyone had come across it.

Doncaster Rovers vs Luton Town inspection at 8.30am tomorrow. The inspection will be carried out by Scott Jackson, the 4th official. The pitch is covered and lighting rigs are in use. The local forecast isn't good, though.

The Doncaster Rovers vs. Radcliffe match is on Thursday 30th October.

Ross Joyce refereed Doncaster Rovers' first home game last season (Accrington Stanley) and last home game (Bradford City). Both were won.

I saw the final games for Richard Beeby and Trevor Kettle. I have also seen Son of Kettle twice last season. He was decent in both games and lacked the dramatic flourishes of his dad,  no bad thing IMHO.

Paul Marsden refereed four League Two games and some Vertu Trophy ones last season.
Has Peter Wright definitely come off the list?

Final. Birmingham City vs.  Peterborough United.
Wembley,  Sunday 13th April 2025
Referee: Benjamin Speedie
Assistants: Grant Taylor and Johnathon Bickerdike.
4th official: Martin Coy.
Referee Assistant: Connall Bartlett.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Doncaster Rovers FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Corlett, Matt
Assistant Referee: Stonier, Paul
Assistant Referee: Raper, Lewis
Fourth Official: Rollason, Greg

An early KO so an early report from Gresty Road. I was impressed with Matt Corlett. A tall rather imposing figure who reminded me of Keith Hill of old, Matt let the game flow, played some good advantages and only reached for his yellow card on one occasion. He was not swayed by the Donnies fans repeated calls for action on the slightest contact and he was always up with play to make decisions when they were needed. The result was an entertaining game on a chilly afternoon, and a 1-1 draw was about the right result. Q for my fellow Crewe fans - was Greg Rollason the 4O as advertised? I thought we had him in the middle for one of our games earlier in the season and he looked nothing like the guy on 4O duties this afternoon. Or maybe I'm getting in a muddle as I quite often do.

Do you think this was a penalty? Because I do. I think most teams would be disappointed if they didn't get that given.

Cup Appointments / Re: The EFL Cup (Carabao Cup) – 2024/25

I think it will be one of John Brooks, Andy Madley or Peter Bankes. Seems to be taking a long time to make the announcement.

Darren Drysdale has replaced Sam Purkiss on Doncaster vs. Newport.

14
Stuart Morland. Yet another referee will limited EFL experience in charge of a game affecting top and bottom of League Two. He may turn out to be the next Jack Taylor,  but it's an appointment that could go badly wrong.

Coventry City fans of my acquaintance really dislike Aston Villa but are not unduly troubled by Birmingham City.
