General Discussion / Re: Non-League game abandoned following abuse« on: Sun 16 Nov 2025 22:37 »
Several weeks ago the same referee supported me, in supporting a group of young female referees do games at an academy during half term. She didn’t need to do this but was great with the girls in the program.
I had the opportunity to chat with her about her refereeing journey and experience, as the event was for the whole day. It is very clear this referee has a strong character and can only think that this must have been extremely vile nature for her take this correct decision. Abuse is abuse and unacceptable. 3

Sadly Hackett, just becomes across as delusional these days.

I heard from a reliable source at the beginning of the season, that Taylor was being given low key games, to keep him out of the limelight, and they often do this for someone who is capable of refereeing the final. This was a national league referee. Be interesting to see if this happens.

General Discussion / Re: Declan Bourne : Charlton v Huddersfield« on: Sun 30 Mar 2025 09:20 »
Declan is a friend of mine. That is a fair description of his style of refereeing. Declan always puts in good solid performances and is often underrated because no one seems to understand he was actually there. Off the pitch great guy!

I disagree with 99% Hackett says.
However, he is right. They are doing too many games. I think they are suffering from burn out. I reliable source confirms my thinking on this. 8

I think Whistleblower your points are very valid, and fair. He is extremely talented but you will have seen some of the areas he struggles with in his recent TV interviews where at times he comes across as shy and reserved. He has never been the big I am, maybe struggling to fit in with the crowd. A lot of things I achieved in football were down to David. So I am very appreciative of him.

I am very fortunate to have known David Coote since he was 16. He was my RDO, and helped me progress my refereeing beyond my abilities by believing in me. He has been through a tough few years.
He supported me last year at an event for the league I am involved with, when he was struggling for time with his refereeing commitments in the Euros and the Olympics. Everything you saw in the interview with the Sun, is what David is. It was one of the bravest things I have seen a referee do to face up with his demons. David will be a massive loss to refereeing. Hopefully there will be a sensible low key way back for him to start with. 10

For anyone who has been an assistant referee at a high level these things happen so quickly, easy to make a hindsight decision. It’s a human error.

I have refrained from posting until now. I have known David since he was 15. He is a friend, and always will be.
David had time for everyone, completely dedicated to his profession. Yes he has made serious mistakes which has cost him his profession. Very few Referees both now and former in Nottinghamshire have a bad word for David. 12

Was his fourth official one evening on a reserve league game, a true gentleman. Treated me with massive respect.

Good point Leggy, take the kit outside…
You would have thought the away team would take a spare kit… 14

I have several so called commenters say this is not a penalty kick. It is a stonewall penalty kick. Kicked on the back of the ankle.

I heard from a reliable source, that he was not well respected within the ranks. I met him once at an RA meeting. I didn’t take to him which is unusual, I put this in context I have met a lot of premier league referees, and always found them thoughtful, inspiring and have empathy for other referees. It did not surprise when I heard he had left.
