General Discussion / Re: Paul Tierney - Chelsea vs Newcastle
« on: Sun 15 Mar 2026 19:13 »
hi,

hang on - weren't chelsea charged last year for 'surrounding the referee' during the ipswich town match?

they seem not to have learnt their lesson

hi,

moyes continued moaning in the 2nd half and was the only person booked all game

easy game for team ref

hi,

looked to be a penalty on havertz - not given onfield and dismissed by var in 3 seconds

david moyes seems to be quite agitated by everything - john busby will be glad to have a half time break for a bit of peace and quiet

hi,

nice 2 page photo feature in the current WSC (issue 463) entitled 'a day in the life of a referee' focussing on dale cartright and the match between st columba's afc vs heywood irish centre in the huddersfield and district league division one

hi,

never a penalty, but i guess you could say that karma prevailed as the bayer scorer should have been off for x2 YC in first 20 minutes

couldn't understand the zubimendi caution - on all replay angles, he appeared to be the one impeded

hi,

YC for andrich after 2 minutes which could (and maybe should) have been a 2nd YC just 5 minutes later foul detection very haphazard to say the least so far - a consistently inconsistent first half from mr. meler

hi,

decent, entertaining match to watch with the sending off being the turning point of the game the irony obviously being that if it was in a previous round, the YC would have stood

on the whole wrexham didn't look outclassed and i'm sure they will turn their attention to cementing a play-off spot in the remaining fixtures

hi,

cards were a bit more freely distributed in the second half - nothing really controversial though comfortable performance by TB

must say, mansfield acquitted themselves well and proved to be a handful at times

hi,

bit of a sticky pitch in places which is making things interesting - lots of passes falling short ref has got most things spot on and seems to be taking time to speak to players when penalised rather than reaching straight for his cards nothing really yet for VAR to get involved in - arsenal handball shout quickly checked and correctly rejected as it hit the home defender's shoulder

so far so good

hi,

exactly this

as an arsenal supporter since the late 60s, i've lost track of the amount of times (especially in the last 15 or 20 years) that the team has been criticised for being 'weak', 'too soft', 'can't deal with the physicality of the game', 'walk the ball into the net', 'always looking for the perfect goal' etc. etc. when missing out on winning trophies. teams would set up against arsenal with a low block and play on the counter, often snatching a win against the run of play with minimal possession.

now, in the last couple of seasons, their playing style has adapted - the defence has improved, the players are more physical and the value of the set play has been maximised. i don't like arteta - never have and i've never made any secret about it, but he has been backed by the owners and is currently on the verge of winning a first trophy in 6 years.

hurzler has been moaning about 'time wasting' in this game two days BEFORE it took place. it WAS a scappy game, it WASN'T great viewing but not every game is a classic.

arsenal have played brighton 3 times this season and have won all 3 - if hurzler wants to see an example of 'dark arts' and 'time wasting', i suggest he re-watches the premier league match between the 2 clubs earlier this seaon at the emirates - brighton started 'managing the clock' at kick-off.

of course, i would rather arsenal win 'nicely' but while teams (including arsenal) can 'win ugly' they will.

perhaps fabian hurzler should use some of his excess energy on developing some innovative tactics of his own. if brighton were in a relegation battle next season, it would be interesting to see if the board back the views he expressed post-match last night.

hi,

much the same in the second half - CK got most things spot on - even if the home fans had a few choruses of 'you don't know what you're doing'

VAR pretty much had nothing to do

hi,

correct early yellow for mosquera in a very scrappy game which has been most notable for the brighton manager spending almost all of the first half moaning about everything it seems

General Discussion / Re: T BRAMALL - Fulham v Spurs
« on: Sun 01 Mar 2026 19:54 »
There is no way the first Fulham goal should be considered a foul, nothing in it at all. Nor did I think that he gave soft free kicks to Fulham, I’m not sure where you’ve got that from. Watching on tv, I thought he got absolutely everything (both ways) spot on, and put in an exemplary performance. I rate Bramall highly, and what I witnessed today reaffirmed that belief. A top performance.

hi,

the tottenham (interim) manager, unsurprisingly, didn't quite see it that way twice in the post match interview, he called TB 'the home team ref' who 'doesn't understand football'

sounds intriguing and interesting

Hopefully VAR free, however there seems to be talks, mentioned by Mike Dean, unfortunately that some form will be introduced.

hi,

really? can the EFL afford the additional costs?
