I didn't see the game, so cant comment on his whole performance but it appears he missed one, perhaps that's the minimal contact they talk about

Another very good appointment for Tom Kirk, it would appear he his doing well.

Based on the appointments Mr Kirk would appear to be having a very good season. A PL appointment this season would almost seem certain but by Christmas is my prediction.

He will have to an awful lot better than this though

Yes VAR should have never referred it, but it doesn't hide that Rob Jones agreed and decided it was a foul.

wow what is Oliver thinking, as he just not seen the 2nd contact with the ball which definitely was deliberate.

Whether Taylor would have determined it was a DOGSO, he should have been given the decision to make

Here it is, I really do prefer the Scottish version, much more comprehensive and not afraid to show errors

General Discussion / Bad night for VAR

Putting aside the Liverpool decision.

There were in my view two clear penalties not given in the Newcastle and Brighton games.

Even the PGMOL apologist Dermot agreed VAR should have intervened.

Yes he was in the very good position to be able to see the hand ball.

I wanted to first get my opinion on the handball incident before others do.

This decision has come from what the law states which clearly says ‘If the goal scorer uses his hand to gain advantage and then score immediately then the goal should be disallowed’ (I know that’s not the exact wording but it’s something similar). As a result, I think John Brooks is under massive pressure when reviewing this situation because the law says that any touch on the arm should be penalised. Now I don’t know what angle Brooks was looking at but I think there’s no conclusive evidence that the shot hits Havertz’s hand. I’ve been looking frame by frame on one of the TV angles and for me there is no evidence to suggest it was a ‘factual’ handball.

Obviously none of this is attached to Kavanagh who I thought had another good outing. Maybe a couple of fouls missed if being picky but he done well.

Perhaps you need to find the angle that does show it hit his hand. clear as day a handball.

General Discussion / Scottish VAR Review

Really enjoyed this and its is refreshing to hear William Collum speak frankly about decisions and not waffling on.

Something I think Webb could look to copy.

Michael Oliver should have allowed to let Walker get back into position before free kick was taken.
Created all the problems for the rest of the game his self

Clearly outside the box and obviously a DOG SO. Goodness knows why Madley got the call doubly wrong, it seemed pretty straightforward.

I think its harsh to criticse Madley, at full speed it looked a penalty, but VAR did its job and got the right decision.
the only questionI would have had if it had of been inside would VAR have overturned i, as he was nowhere near playing the ball.

No way it will be overturned on appeal.

I woud argue it isviolent conduct rather than SFP, as he made no attempt to play the ball whatsoever.
"kicks or attempts to kick" I assume is still in the LOTG.

General Discussion / Re: Blue cards for football
« on: Sat 10 Feb 2024 21:28 »
When sin-bins first came in at Supply League I felt they were used well and in the main there was an improvement on dissent towards officials.

Now however, I feel that a large number of referees feel that given the sanction is more severe than a caution, they set a much higher tolerance level to dissent than previously.
As such, I do not think it has improved matters, in fact I think it has made it worse.

I do not think anything will be different at the top level.

As someone who is involved in the running of a league, it is clear when they were 1st introduced they were used widely.

However some years on they are now in comparison rarely used.

I think the blue card is a good idea to inicate the sin bin but not for the 'cynical fouls' as proposed.
