General Discussion / Re: Argentina vs Morocco - Olympics 2024« on: Thu 25 Jul 2024 06:33 »
I watched the game in full. It was messy from the start and while Nyberg tried to hold back but then started to issue yellow cards only for Morocco players which added to the tension. There were cynical fouls from both sides and plenty of rolling around. Claims of being elbowed in the face and so on. Only in the 88th minute an Argentina player finally got booked but the damage was done.
The added 15 minutes was nonsense. There was one delay in the second half when someone run on the field to take a selfie (this again). Maybe FIFA has ordered more added time at the OG since the event is usually less visible compared to other international tournaments but it has backfired on day one. The Guinea game also had 11 minutes added on IIRC. And yeah, everyone says Dominicana got robbed since that was never a foul when they scored a goal. 3

The game was messy as hell. There was one delay in the 2nd half due to someone running onto the pitch to take a selfie but that didn't warrant 15 minutes added on. Plenty of small fouls and rolling around. Nyberg booked only Morocco players and spared a couple of Argentinians which only added to the tension before a couple of late yellow for the South Americans.
I understand FIFA smelled trouble and awarded the contest to basically the 2nd referee in the ranking order of this tournament but it clearly overwhelmed Mr. Nyberg here. 4

Sadly this could be it for Nyberg's serious international career. Shades of Michael Ballack chasing Tom Henning Ovrebo back in the day. This will be hard to sweep under the rug especially with the 15 minutes added on decision.

Yeah, two hours later VAR had disallowed the goal and we'll have three minutes added on in an empty stadium.
Nyberg is just having a shocker all around. A worldwide shocker. 6

I fear there will be a HUGE backlash after Nyberg's performance in ARG vs MOR. 15 minutes added on and Argentina equalised in the 16th added minute...

Euros 2024 / Re: Knockout Stage« on: Thu 11 Jul 2024 21:16 »I wonder how Turpin feels ? Pleased and proud of his fellow countryman I suppose that Porteous RC no-call in the opening match really hurt his chances. Heard it from several ex-refs this was a glaring flaw. It looks like Marciniak was only kept around if we had FRA vs ENG final. I'm still puzzled that Soares Dias was send home early. Given Zwayer's noisy SF performance he'd fit much better in that game but we can't get fully rid of politics after all. 8

I didn't expect Orsato to be send home already so with France out it's really down to Marciniak and Turpin now.

Euros 2024 / Re: A Taylor - Spain v Germany« on: Fri 05 Jul 2024 23:12 »I would be interested to learn their criteria for excellence. The whole handball could have been voided since there was a probable Fullkrug offside in the build-up anyway. Though this would require a VAR zoom for sure. 10

I make that 15 yellow cards and 1 red for Taylor. He made the first big decision in this game wrong and it snowballed from there. Chances of him even being 4O for the final are absolutely zero.

Rudiger's foul was less reckless than Kroos'. I think Taylor realized he made a mistake with the Kroos no card decision (boosted by Pedri's injury sub) and wanted to make up for it by booking Rudiger.

Looks like Vincic and Marciniak must be heavy favorites for the semi-finals and perhaps Dias is the dark horse for the final with Portugal unlikely to go all the way? If not Dias then Orsato would get fifth match at this Euro which would be a surprise.
