"Premier League will use thicker lines to call marginal offside decisions with VAR next season, with the aim to give the attacker the benefit of the doubt"

General Discussion / Re: PL referee of the season 2020-21
« on: Tue 01 Jun 2021 15:56 »
I was curious to read Keith Hackett's view on our SG1 referees in response to one of his followers.  This presumably refers to the 20/21 season.

https://twitter.com/HACKETTREF

here is my top 5:
Michael Oliver
Martin Atkinson,
Mike Dean
Anthony Taylor
Stuart Attwell.

Nothing too controversial perhaps in the above.  His following observations however may raise a few eyebrows!

Moss-Hooper-Scott, Jones should be demoted
Mason will be VAR only.
Marriner has lost his pace and ready for retirement.
England, Madley, Pawson need more Coaching

Mr Hackett was of course Head of PGMOL before Mike Riley.

Scott has improved. Moss will never be demoted as long as the present are still in charge. Hooper has been one of the highlights of the season In a good way. Jones came up in August and has had little or nothing games. This man hasn't a clue!

Marriner is a better ref than he ever was. Mike Dean was nowhere near a top 5 ref this season. Anthony Taylor has been poor more times than good.

This man needs to stop saying things to try keep himself relevant.

Just watching back highlights

Newport should've had a pen in first half

Multiple cases let go throughout game

Pen is a free kick

I'd suggest going to Andy for some help Bobby

Hi Ref Fan, disagreeing is fine, and often elucidates a truth.

It seems to me that there is little dispute concerning the mechanics of the incident, the dispute is over a relatively narrow area of what constitutes excessive force.  I have my view that the manner of Rudiger's block endangered the safety of De Bruyne and that he had alternative, safer, options to stop De Bruyne.  Others don't agree, that's fine.

1. Martinez manages Belgium

2. There is no way he meant to try and badly hurt him

3. The opinion of 1 pundit doesn't mean their opinion is right

Better today

Good to see him bounce back from a below average season

Can someone please explain why not the yellow shirt. Saw similar comments for FA Cup final

Actually confused

Also, pink and black could also have been worn tonight
The main ‘boss’ here missy bmb does not like referees in yellow shirts and she shall be obeyed lol.
Its a rate the ref thing.

Oh ok.

Will go by the rules then  😅

Have only been here since April so didn't pick it up 🤣

General Discussion / Re: Promotion Interviews 2021

Don't take what I say for granted but my dad's mate currently is an advisor for the board on LOI Division 1 here in Ireland which is the 2nd tier

He is a football fanatic and would watch any football you put on the TV with enthusiasm

He has refing background as well

He said that in his opinion, Gillett and Harrington are miles ahead of the rest of the SG2

He also thinks that if he was in charge, he would demote Moss and Scott. He has a slight personal grudge against Moss but won't get into that. He thinks Scott performs better in Champ

Let me know your opinions

Verrry minor points - would have liked to see a caution for mobbing at the big penalty appeal, reckless stamp by Fernandinho (66') who then committed two further fouls (83', +92').

What an EXCELLENT rendition of how to serve football as a referee whilst being a charismatic leader at the same time. Mateu absolutely bossed that game. Respect!!

Those medals are very well deserved. I've always said that when on form, him ,Brych, Oliver and Kuipers are Europe's best

10
On another note, Azpilicueta is already slightly p*ssed

11
This puts Lahoz in line for a EURO SF if you ask me

That's the best final performance I've seen for at least over a decade

Two tiny mistakes all game

Spain are blessed to have him when on form

Also the AR and VAR with an excellent job as well, don't forget them

12
Excellent again with penalty shout

Got a little bit flustered but another great decision

13
Gives him a hand up and then a yellow card

Poor Rudiger

Excellent refereeing

14
Ngl he looked like he was sh*tt*ng himself walking out at start, thought we were in for a disaster

However, he proved me wrong

I'd agree with that Gundogan should've been booked in 12 min for foul but other than that he's been perfect

General Discussion / Re: Clement Turpin Villarreal vs Man Utd
« on: Wed 26 May 2021 23:07 »
The quality of the penalties was far better than the 120 minutes of the match it’s self , Utd got what they deserved their approach from the first whistle was as if it was a meaningless friendly

OGS tactical naivety was on display again his lack of subs and the subs he did make were baffling if a Europa League final doesn’t gee your team up I don’t know what does

I've said from when he came in, he won't do nothing at UTD.

I'd capitalise on Zidane being sacked from Madrid if I were UTD
